Arguably the best half of hurling ever in an All Ireland final - trying to explain to my son how good they are. The closest I could come to was NZ at rugby - a mix of skill, physicality and determination

This Limerick team is crazy good.
As I said earlier, they have zero weaknesses and think I have never seen a team with such a mix of physicality and skill, and no small measure of mental strength.
Your All Black comparison is a great one.
Like you I have never seen a half of hurling with this level of prowess. Easily the best half of hurling of all time I think when you look at how Limerick have played and how good a team they are making look very ordinary in Cork.
Cork are in trouble I feel. They need this Limerick team to take the foot off the gas in a big way to keep the score respectable let alone to have a chance to win the game.
If Limerick come out in the second half and catch fire like this again, we could be looking at them winning the final by 20 clear points.

Second half starting and Limerick get their first score of the second half within 30 seconds
3-19 to 1-11
and within another 30 seconds Limerick have scored again
3-20 to 1-11
a massive 15 points ahead now

I’d say they are the best side in my lifetime - even with Cork, Tipp, Kilkenny etc. They are the perfect age and more titles in front of them.
My dad was saying you could take the best 15 players from around the country and they’d still not be as good as them

The all star awards should be easy this year. The Limerick starting 15 and that's it.
Was a stunning display. Have never seen a team as good as Cork, a team in many other years that would be good enough to win an All Ireland, get outplayed, manhandled, outfought, and out thought
as comprehensively as that.
Looking at the average age of this Limerick team, you would not be surpised to see them win the title next year and the year after that as well.
This Limerick team is scarily good in every single department and seem to be getting hungrier to win and more determmed to win after each title win. Just amazing how they have won three out of the last four titles and then each season start as if they are chasing a title for the first time. There is not even a whiff of complacency off of them after four excellent years in a row.
Thought for a long time that the dominant Kilkenny team was going to be the best team I was going to see in my lifetime, but this Limerick team is better imo.

Only just saw that there was a thread for this.
Some display from Limerick. My brother is married to a Limerick woman who has now bombarded the family whatsapp with all sorts of non-funny memes. She's like a Man City fan.........they were grand all these years when they were shite but now feckin unbearable??
All-black comparison is spot on. Cody may as well walk away now to be honest because Limerick could be doing a Bayern Munich on it and win another 5 in the row to go on top of the 3 in the last 4 years.
Jaco.....where are you from........Like ? Just saw the reference to Buttevant when scanning through the thread.

Limerick born, lived in a pile of places though. Limerick, a few parts of Cork, Clare, Liverpool, Stuttgart and currently just on the Cork side of the Limerick/Cork border. Some shorter stays in places like Galway, Dublin and Belfast.
Buttevant I mentioned as I like the village (pass through it a bit and have gotten cars serviced in the Opel dealer there) and also like the idea of declaring war on it just for the craic. The nearby Donkey Sanctuary is very cool too as are the herd of red deer in Doneraile.

Loving this thread. I've barely understood a word, as I know nothing about hurling.
In my defence, I'm English. An Essex boy, living in Kent, with a Cork surname. About as big a plastic Irishman as ever there was.
I've been working with a company based in Dublin of late and they love hurling.

Dublin + Hurling???? Does.....Not.....Compute
Also don't worry about being an Essex lad when it comes to understanding Hurling, probably puts you on par with the average Dub.
Don't worry Dublin lads will say the same thing as Dublin is generally a Gaelic Football county and not a hurling one.
But Odin knows I do wish Dublin had a hurling team that was good enough to meet Limerick in a semi or in a final as I would take more pleasure in them being thrashed than poor Cork.

Different game I know, but couldn't find a Gaelic football thread so I'll ask here.
My Aussie Rules side Geelong has signed some young Irish hotshot called Oisin Mullin. Whats the craic with him? Should I be excited will he be a success like his new teammates Zach Touhy and Mark O'Connor, or is he likely to fail and go home with his tail between his legs like Stefen Okunbor?

Cannot say how he will take to playing in the AFL but he is a bloody good footballer.
Not the biggest of footballers but is very agile, is a fast runner on and off of the ball and he reads the game really really well and makes a lot of catches and interceptions seem really ordinary through excellent positioning. Very good at keeping play moving and doing the simple things to a high level. A hell of a lot of Mayo's play from the bck came through him. He won the young player of the year award as well over here
But if he adds a bit more concentration to his game and puts on maybe 7lbs to 10 lbs of muscle ( which he probably will as he is only around 21 years of age) then he has all the tools to be a hit.

It can be hit and miss Harv - I know of Mullen and is a good footballer. Usually it’s how they adapt to professionalism, being away from home etc. The positive thing is modern guys are almost professional in their mindset and with other local lads it should help them settle
In all cases they will need to bulk up - Gaelic football hates that these lads get “stolen” btw
I think a few years there to make money is a good thing and then come back home

Thanks lads.
Had a look at a video of him playing earlier and he certainly has some pace! He moves really well by the looks and his kicking action looks perfect for AFL, should be very clean with the ball. He handballs with both hands as well, which bodes well. Can already see him lining up on our back flank running the ball off halfback through the middle. Actually reminds me of an old Geelong Premiership player from 10-15 yrs ago, David Wojinscki, with the way he dashes away with the ball.
Yeah i bet they hate it, its a weird system really. These lads generally turn into pretty good players, there's something about the way you play that just lends itself really well to modern AFL, especially the way teams like to run the ball off the halfback line now. Im pretty sure the majority all play win the backline. If they learn how to kick properly they tend to get in the side early.
Essendon lost their little Irish speedster last year as a result of being homesick. I think Stefen Okunbor did the same with Geelong a couple of months ago. He hadn't played a game yet though in 3 seasons as his kicking was really not good.

Damn fucking right.
We will fuck Kilkenny up in the final for your lads, Nev. ( As long as we make it to the final )
Yesterday's result was a blessing in a way as I had expected Clare to make the final, and if Limerick make the final I would have been more wary of facing Clare than Kilkenny.
Styles making fights and all that.
Just think that Clare play in a manner that makes things more difficult for Limerick than other counties can muster.
Plus would be more up for a game against Limerick than against almost any other counties save perhaps Tipp.
They were strangely subdued at times against Kilkenny. Kilkenny played very well and keep everything tight when they needed to, but I kept waiting for Clare to wake up.
Think Munster hurling is close to being the strongest it has ever been though.
Savagely good panels in both Clare and Cork, with Waterford and Tipp having the sort of teams that whilst not All Ireland winning levels are more than good enough to foce the better counties to raise their games against.
Limerick of course then being the strongest in Munster and Ireland again this year for me, though we will see today if there are indeed signs of chinks in the Limerick armour or if they are doing their usuyal thing and starting slow and getting better the closer they get to the final.

Well the devil was in the detail on that one as you well know.... Anyway, I don't speak hurling but even as a gaa ignoramus I know that the cats are serious underdogs for this one.

Underdogs yes.
Serious underdogs? Nah.
Is a 55/45 game in favour of Limerick imo.
Limerick are the best hurling team in Ireland. Not for no reason they are going for three All Irelands in a row.
Kilkenny were, imo, the best team outside of the Munster trio of Limerick, Clare and Cork before last weekend but hard to discount Kilkenny at any time when it comes to hurling.
I was full sure that the final this year would be Limerick having to again face another Munster team to see who the All Ireland Champions would be, however if Kilkenny can put in a performance like they did against Clare and Limerick turn up a bit below their best like they did in the semi final against Galway, then that 55/45 game becomes a 50/50 game in a hurry.
As said in an earlier post, am happier to see Limerick face Kilkenny than Clare though. Kilkenny will come right at Limerick and look to match up man to man. Limerick tend to thrive when a god team does that against them, Cork doing that against Limerick in last year's final being an example of that.
