It's interesting, who has been captain in recent games? Cahill? Henderson?

The captains of Australia, Denmark and France have asked Fifa to lift the ban on Paolo Guerrero - the skipper of group rivals Peru - so he can play at this summer's World Cup in Russia.

Guerrero, who tested positive for prohibited substance cocaine in October - he says he ingested it by drinking tea - is serving a 14-month ban.

The letter to football's world governing body asks for a "temporary interruption" to his suspension so he can appear for Peru at their first World Cup in 36 years.

Signed by Australia's Mile Jedinak, Denmark's Simon Kjaer and France's Hugo Lloris, the document - released by world players' union FIFPro - asks Fifa for "compassion" and an "equitable and rightful solution" which would allow Guerrero to reach the "pinnacle" of his career.

Guerrero, 34, tested positive for cocaine after a qualifier against Argentina on 6 October and was initially banned for 12 months.

His suspension was halved by Fifa's appeal committee but the World Anti-Doping Agency appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) and they imposed the 14-month ban.

Peru beat New Zealand over two legs in a play-off in November to qualify for the World Cup, their first appearance at the tournament since 1982.
Seems plausible. Peruvian tea must be kickass.

Hope he gets in. Fairly sure taking cocaine isn't all that helpful for winning football matches anyway.

Southgate probably threw the armband to Henderson, but it brushed Kane's shoulder on the way, so he claimed it

Coca tea not uncommon there, it's legal and is often used by those in the Andes as it purportedly alleviates altitude sickness.

Can't believe that Southgate would give the armband to Kane so close to the world cup after Henderson had it his for so long. Absolutely ridiculous. Hope they get fucked early on.

I'm delighted. Henderson will be well out of the latest inevitable shit show and that gormless goal chiefer Kane will look a plum instead.

Kane has been the captain for a while under Southgate. Think Henderson only had it when he was injured.

Shelvey is a different type of player which is why I would have considered taking him but swapping him in doesn't have much effect on the overall quality of the squad. To be honest most of the players in contention are uninspiring 'meh' players. I don't think England have a world class player.
Id have considered it, then remembered he's a complete liability and doubt he'd last a full tournament 90mins without getting sent off.

England shite Vs Nigeria in the warmup, but whatever. What I wanted to mention was the shitness of Rahim Sterling and the shithouse dive that he got booked for. It's a friendly game so a ridiculous thing to do, but once he has done it he's got to be subbed off immediately, surely. To leave him on is to condone it.

Actually, Draxler played more than I thought.

But I'd still have Sane over him!

What I can gather from other places, it seems like he's been really poor for the national team and the others fit the team better, so he got sorted. Germans I've seen are not unhappy about it.

Shows what a bunch of overhyped, mollycoddled ego filled twats of footballers we have bred in this country. Should be no excuses relating to how much we play in this country, they simply are not good enough and have to prove it in the pitch

I think that just says that Spanish, French and Brazilian players all make up a big chunk of the top EPL teams and those going deep in Europe. I don't think it adds anything controversial to the debate about the number of minutes EPL based players are expected to play compared with competing UEFA leagues.

Also that the England squad is made up of squad fillers and sick-notes
