Great deal. RBL wanted him for another year, but we never gave up - Great to secure this signing and will certainly shut up the anti-FSG mob - paying a premium on top!

Liverpool have agreed a club-record deal to sign Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, with the player officially joining on 1 July 2018.
The Reds have agreed to pay the £48m release clause that will allow him to move next summer, plus an undisclosed premium.
The 22-year-old had been one of Jurgen Klopp's primary targets this summer, but Leipzig had refused to sell.
The deal will surpass the £35m they paid Newcastle to sign Andy Carroll.

It must be incredibly hard for the player to have made this dream signing but know he has to return to his old club for the next 10 months.
That said, kudos to FSG for brokering this compromise deal for a player Klopp clearly wants.

Quite amazing too that Keita is signing for us without any assurance at all of CL football next season. That's the pull of Jurgen.

In football there is no guarantee of a manager being here in 12 months time really is there? Its hard to get fully excited but RBL clearly wouldn't sell this summer and we've found a compromise!

The best thing that has happened to the club in many many long years was securing Klopp.
I have absolute faith in him, win lose or draw. He is exactly the manager we need. Humble, funny, no bullshit, tough... plus about the only manager who looks like he'd be a decent laugh to go for a pint with.
I think we already play the best attacking football in the League, it beggars belief to imagine what we might be like by next year.

Didn't we have a similar deal with Auxerre when we signed Cisse?

Compare him to any type of midfielder and he looks great, it's fucking ridiculous. He's got Kante numbers defensively but as you can see while Kante does absolutely nothing else Keita has dribbling numbers like a prime Iniesta or Coutinho and scores like a prime Vidal. And that's him at 21/22 compared to other mid 20s. This guy is genuinely a freak midfielder! We are so, so lucky.
And :
Facing RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita is like playing against two players, according to Schalke director Christian Heidel.
Schalke were 2-0 winners against Leipzig, runners-up last season, on the opening weekend of the new Bundesliga campaign, with Nabil Bentaleb and Yehven Konoplyanka on target at Veltins-Arena.
But Keita, a reported target for Liverpool in recent months, stood out for the visitors as Heidel acknowledged the unique challenge of tackling the 22-year-old.
"Everyone has seen that Leipzig are a top team, especially since they have a 12th player," he said. "Naby Keita plays for two, this boy is incomprehensible.
"I have rarely seen such a thing live. Even if we threw three players at him, he somehow managed to hold onto the ball."

Doesn't sign until July 2018 mind, but fuck me, I'll take that, at the very least it means we won't lose out next year.

Keita will know Klopp is planning to build the midfield around him. He's exactly the type of midfielder we need, to quicken the transition of attacks from our defence.
I expect Coutinho to be sold next summer anyway, so this will be a glorious arrival to cover that.

If the wheels fall off their season, it wouldn't surprise me to see him join early in the Jan window.

Just came to the site and saw this at the top of the LFC page and thought it was someone having a laugh, just checked the BBC and seen it on there!
Baby Keith
Shame he isn't coming in for another year but still, getting him for £48m rather than £70m seems like good business

its mad hes agreed to this, how does he benefit? Us not signing someone else?
He could have the pick of the European elite next summer, and he's chosen to tie himself to us when there are about a dozen better clubs than us

I think legit early interest counts for a lot. Klopp apparently chased him last summer too and when a player knows a manager has that much confidence in him it it means a lot. I'm absolutely buzzing

I'm not sure there are many other clubs where he would potentially be such a good fit. Having the pace, guile and movement of Mo, Firmy and Mane ahead of him, gives him the best possible chance to thrive.
