Always remember this guy openly says his final destination will be Real Madrid so expect the fun to start in 2 years.

Possibly. There's worse things than being seen as a stepping stone to RM / Barca though.
At least the top talent will come here and if they make it they improve us along the way and give us a cash injection.
It doesn't feel like that big a problem anymore. Klopps using some pretty amazing cogs, but they all seem replaceable.

Yup, Keita would replace Phil's output very well, although i believe his numbers have dipped a little this season.

I'd love him in now but he doesn't fill the void left by Phil in our CL squad.

Keita would be cup tied for the CL as he has already played in the CL this season.

His numbers have dropped, but for any other player playing in his position those numbers would still read like a very good season. Was just that his numbers for last season were so good they were silly.
Also he has been played in the deepest CM role mostly this season whereas last season his manager let him be more central and more of a box to box player.
So as he has been in the deeper role his goal and assist numbers have dropped off. But in defensive terms his avaerage tackles per game this season as over 3 per game and his interceptions are over two per game, which are very healthy defensive stats.
But if this season is what a supposedly unmotivated Keita can do in a strong league and in the CL, I cannot wait to see how he plays for the team he wants to play for.

That's a shit load of money, specially seeing we paid a premium already. But hey, missing out on CL costs more than £17m

I doubt we’ll pay that much of a premium. My gut feeling says more like £10m

He'll be one of the best midfielders on the planet within a year or two, well he already is but needs a bigger platform.
Get it done. Just shit he can't play in the CL. Get a big couple of years out of him then we can enjoy him on Sky's La Liga coverage in 2020.

I may be incorrect, however, I'm sure you can register 1 player who's already played in the Champions League group stage so long as their former club didn't make the knockout phase of the competition..
EDIT: Nah, jobs fu*ked. You can register a player so long as they haven't played in the group stage AND the club still isn't in the competition

Do it. I'd rather pay 20 million to get him early than 40 million on the wrong player or go the rest of the season without another midfielder.

Think euro and pounds may be getting mixed up with some of the reports.
Seeing figures being quoted in Euro on German sites and german twitter accounts, then a few hours later the same figures are being quoted in pounds on otrher sites/accounts.
Almost £13m or around €14.5 seems to be the figure being used by German media

17 million? That fee alone would make our top 20 most expensive signings of all time.

She's definitely become that sort. I'd say it's her, Joyce and Bascombe now. The Echo lads seem way out of the picture these days.

I think Spurs should always be considered a threat. Kanes goals are what I worry about.

Reported fee structure for Keita:
Upfront - £48m
Plus at end of the season:
- Basic - £9m
- Europa Qualification -£14m (5th-6th)
- CL Qualification - £18m (top4)
RBL are sitting in 5th place, 2points behind 2nd place and 2points from 8th.
E20m /= £18m
Is the E15-20m being referred to a suggestion that RBL will accept a deal that basically brings forward the same agreement with an assumption that they finish between Europa/CL positions (RBL being pessimistic)
or
What seems more balanced to me is that.
The existing agreement would apply and an extra £14mil is required based on being 5th atm. (£62m total)
Then an additional E15-20m (£13-18m) on top of that for making it early. i.e. a total fee of roughly £75-80mil Total
Perhaps RBL arguing for the £18mil for CL qualification and then E15-20m on top of that ?
On one hand it seems reasonable in the current context, but considering he had a £48m buy out clause, we've paid a massive premium to secure him early and would be an extortionate one to do it quickly, considering it seems he was always coming here anyway (like VVD who could have gone to somewhere else).

I think the point they're making is that he can help them finish in top 4 and we should pay based on top 4 if we're going to take that chance away. Which I think is fair enough really.

Why are we paying based on how they finish? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
