Even the Daily Mail are running that story accurately. 25 used kits got mistakingly issued to students

Maybe I expected too much but for the cost you expect a player to hit the ground runnjng. He really needs to start producing a higher level imo. Certainly a lovely footballer but when everyone is fit, I can only see him as a squad player.... a very expensive squad player.

Producing better performances, I thought it was pretty obvious what I meant. To the level of the player who we paid so much money for and had so much expectation.

Anybody who hasn't been disappointed or underwhelmed is telling fibs.

That's all very general and while it might be obvious that you expect him to "do better," it's not at all obvious what "better" means because you haven't defined it.

How do you measure performance? How does he rate on this measurement vs where he should be?

right I can see where this is going.

IMO he's been average, not shit, not great just ok. Over 50m quid should get you better than just ok... imo of course. I'll leave at that as we aren't going to get anywhere

I define average as doesn't score enough goals, get enough assists, make many telling forward runs or dominate enough midfield battles. Its a pity really because I thought we were getting a cracker of a player who excelled in all of those categories above. I think he doesn't really believe in himself anymore and certainly not with us.

If you look at the stats for our main midfielders last year:
Wijnaldum 47 games, 41 starts, 6 goals, 0 assists
Henderson 40 games, 36 starts, 4 goals, 4 assists
Fabinho 39 games, 32 starts, 2 goals, 3 assists
Ox 43 games, 25 starts, 8 goals, 2 assists
Milner 37 games, 18 starts, 4 goals, 3 assists
Keita 27 games, 16 starts, 4 goals, 3 assists

Stats from http://www.anfield-online.co.uk/stats/lfc-stats.html

His stats on scoring goals and assists compare favorably with other players in our midfield when you take into account the number of appearances. Only Wijnaldum and Ox scored more goals and they started almost 3 and 1.5 times as many games as him, only Henderson had more assists and he started over twice as many games. By those first two metrics if Keita is average so are most/all of our other midfielders.

Forward runs and ability to dominate midfield battles are both rather subjective. Not sure exactly what you mean by dominate midfield battles to me that sounds more like a DM role such as a Hamann or a Mascherano type role, there are other wise to dominate a midfield eg controlling the game by passing game Alonso type role, but there are very few players who I would describe as both 'dominating midfield battles and making lots of forward runs' Gerrard being the obvious example but there are very few players who do both. IMO given that he has mostly been playing with one or more of Henderson and Fabinho I wouldn't be expecting him to be doing alot of the midfield battling I would expect him to be doing more forward runs and to be fair I would say IMO he has been doing that (as I say though these are subjective).

Would I like to see him getting 10+ goals a season from midfield? Of course, Do I feel he has neve got going in a LFC shirt? yes. But I don't think he's a bad player, he really needs a run of games, which before the restart he never really had. Before joining his goal scoring record was about 1 in 4, his record Las season when he started games was about that as well. The role he is playing here is different to what he did at previous clubs. I would hope that he can stay fit, get a run of games and show us what he can do because I believe that there is more to come from him.

When you take into account the number of appearances you see that he hasn't been available enough. We need better. Same as Matip and shaqiri......... It doesn't matter if you are handy if you are never available

We need better?

Surely you mean fitter?

Any player coming in will get similar stats, as it is just the way our midfield plays. They do a very specific job, one that allowed us to piss the league. Be nice if Naby stayed fit. But when he does play he produces stats similar of not better than the other midfielders.

There’s also Ox. Who genuinely does have availability problems.

Naby is way down the list of players in line to be replaced.

Think someone said that he'd been out for 5 weeks then played two full 90 minute international games followed by the Leicester game. Probably felt his hamstring. Pity because he looked good against Leicester (we probably played better when he was in midfield).

He needs to bin off the internationals & Guinea to go fuck themselves as they are not looking after him with their need to play him all the time regardless of what condition his fitness is at!
He needs to remember where his priorities are if he wants a future at Liverpool as we would have made sure that he had another contract signed by now.

Itís a difficult one - Naby was super robust when at RBL.....played all the time and rarely injured. He got a bad one vs Barca last year and since then has been mismanaged at international level which has led to a litany of niggly injuries

You have to think from his perspective being a world recognizable player from Guinea and given the route most of these lads make to be pro footballers they are very loyal to their country. He would have grown up playing on crap pitches, no football boots and gone to Europe at a very young age. The mental strength of these lads (Naby, Mane, Salah) to make it in Europe given their humble beginnings is inspirational. They are super proud to represent their country and give back so much to their local communities.

Itís the amateur nature of the national set up that fucks us though - he is being flogged to death rather than been allowed to build up his tolerance to playing again. Going from one of the most scientific clubs to amateurville Guinea - itís Klopp than needs to have a word or we supply the amount of mins he can play etc

These guys are legends in their countries and will never put club before country.
If their national team set up is tin pot then the player will be made to play even if in a wheelchair, it's a joke and certainly not helping the poor shmucks who pay his wages.

don't let him go there then. Feels like every single time he comes back from international duty he's either crocked or completely knackered from having to run around on a mine field.

Needs to take a leaf out of Matip's book and tell them to fuck off. Not like Guinea are ever going to win anything let alone make a WC, they're shit.

The difference is that Matip was born in Germany and represented Cameroon - I'm not sure whether he felt he belonged in Cameroon. Naby is Guinea through and through -he would never tell them to fuck off. He's a patriot.

He won't be here much longer then. No point keeping around someone that puts country before club to their detriment. He either needs to grow a pair and tell them when he's physically unable to play or ship out. Which is a shame as there's a quality player in there, we just barely get to see it because he's always crocked.

This is what gets to me, the coaches are European and they definitely know better but don't care. I think their current coach is French and the previous one Belgian. Obviously they're under huge pressure to field big players, but still.

Indeed, Matip is German for me, just played for Cameroon. A lot of the best 'African' footballers are born and have lived in Europe for the entire lives, they just happen to have an African (grand)parent. Most times it allows them to get into international football quicker/easier. I doubt Aubameyang for example knows much about Gabon and is planning to settle there when he hangs up his boots

Really? Whilst I don't have any time for international football personally, many players have said they put international football first. If we signed Zidane in his prime and felt France was more important should we have sold him? Should the coaching staff conduct a survey asking the players a series of questions on their opinions on international football then sell anyone who has national patriotism?

You conveniently left out the final few words which were key to that sentence. "To their detriment". Ive got no problem players playing for their country. But when they are continually made to play half injured, or basically run ragged every time they play then they should be speaking up and clubs (who pay their astronomical wages) should get a say in this. Like this international break just past. He has just started training again after they crocked him last break...and he's made to go out there and run around on a shit pitch for 90 minutes in the heat twice in a week. Guinea have form with this, they've mouthed off about us not wanting him to go before haven't they?
