Top 4 Race

So nice to not be involved in one of these for once

Who do you want to finish 3rd and 4th?

There are positives for every team missing out, it becomes difficult to choose a favourite.

Arsenal - They clearly only invest part of what the generate, which means if they miss out on the CL again they could begin to fade into mediocrity, removing a direct rival in the medium term. Arsenal Fan TV is a guilty pleasure of mine and lets face it, the worse Arsenal are doing the funnier their content!

Chelsea - Obvious rivalry, their club is the antithesis of ours. When they have their arse in gear they can win any trophy on any given year. Consecutive years out of the CL with an ageing squad and a transfer ban could harm them and remove them from the picture for a few years.

United - Solskjaer would have performed a miracle to get them into the top 4 given they were what, 10-11 points behind when he was put in charge? After all our years of suffering it would be great to see them back into the Europa League, but their financial power means it probably won't affect them too much.

Spurs - Despite performing better than us over the past 10 years, they don't feel like a rival. But their fans seem to have grown a massive ego recently so it'd be nice to see them taken down a peg or two. The new stadium has cost 40% more than they had anticipated so losing CL revenue would be a kick in the bollocks.

I actually feel myself preferring if Spurs and United to finish top 4, simply because I think both Arsenal and Chelsea would suffer more.

Arsenal and Spurs. I want united out of the champions league two years running so those deals drop in value. Chelsea will fuck off in to mediocrity soon enough and no cl football will hurt recruitment with a hapless, or new, manager

Plus, Arsenal could potentially win Europa league so would rather that threat is eliminated and they take a league spot

Yeah the longer Arsenal are in front of United the less chance of United throwing the match vs City & giving them an advantage.

I want Man Utd and Chelsea to be the ones who miss out, Spurs and Arsenal feel less of a threat (maybe that's because the haven't won anything for a while). I get the feeling that Man Utd in particular could be a year or two away from a challenging for the title again, if they can have a couple of good transfer windows, and CL football will help them even more, anything that holds them back is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Chelsea, I hope they are going to lose Hazard, Abramovic pulls out and they drop like a stone (unlikely but it could happen).

Yep totally agree. Chelsea dropping back to mid table would be awesome. United always have the pulling power that big wages help with so if Ole continues to improve them they could do a Lazarus. Spurs have the uncanny ability to develop players that cost buttons so Iím hoping theyíve got lean pickings for a while. Arsenal have 2 great strikers capable of hurting most teams but they seem incapable of improving their defence so Iím not too worried about them improving any time soon.

I reckon Arsenal & Chelsea will contest the Europa final so Spurs and Utd need to be looking to finish 3rd in order to qualify

The only way 4th don't get CL is if English teams with both the Europa and CL, and for winners of both of those to also be out of the top 4 in the league. Possible but unlikely.

I'm happy with the Arsenal result today, it keeps Man Utd in the top 4 race, meaning that they really need to get a result against Man City which is good for us.

FWIW I've heard the following, Ole was handed the wheel despite misgivings in the UK, I believe a number (inc Ferguson) told them to wait until the summer, but the lack of candidates willing to work the the first team squad was minimal, pretty much everyone wanted a war chest. Bus driver Ole has agreed to work with a DOF, but a continental DOF, hence the unease with Phelan, Phelan wants DOF or OFF..... meanwhile Micheal Carricks still on GBP4m a year.......
Pretty much everyone is for sale at the club barring Sanchez as no other club can afford the salary. Good news for Utd is, they finally paid of Moyes in March, all contractual bonuses were paid up and made good, that said Van Gall and Jose's exits will carry on until 2022..

Part 2, GBP2m has been set aside to restore and fix varying issues around the ground and areas in summer 19. Refurbs of all suites to take place in 2020 and 2021. No renovation can take place until Railtrack agree on the train line behind Old Trafford with talks still ongoing as line not often used.
Utd asked about upgrading tram links so more trams could arrive but baulked at cost to them, decided to look at putting more car parking on.

Lol, you'd think in the past they all played to stop us getting into the top 4 rather than to get in it themselves.

Since they can't stop us this year they cannot be arsed.

"When I was trying to speak with him he was never looking in my eyes and he was not trying to listen, he just said I don't want to listen to you, shut up and play the game."
