Seems pointless with 2 games to go but I suppose if he's not wanted there next year 2 games to go or 2 weeks time is irrelevant. Need to ship some players out too. Getting thumped away to West Ham at this stage of the season is a complete bottle-job moment

Saw that. Couldn’t happen to a nicer fellow.

Ref is very lenient on Harry Maguires tussles with Giroud so far. Giroud is getting no decisions.

Can't be safe for such serious treatment with the guy lying right next to the pitch. If play went close to where he was being treated and there was another collision..

Both Mancs knocked out in semis is surprising and very welcome.

Looking at the Nigel Pearson situation at Watford, it seems a really odd one to me, he's got them 25 points from 20 games, ok their recent form hasn't been great but they looked certain to go down when he came in and he has got them to a position where they could stay up. But they aren't there yet, despite being 3 points clear of the drop (with a 4 goal GD better than Villa and Bournemouth), the 2 games they have left against are Man City and Arsenal. You could easily see them losing both of those games and their GD decreasing by 4 or more. Villa beating West Ham (or Arsenal) or Bournemouth beating Everton could be enough to send them down. I definitely wouldn't want the caretaker role in charge of them for the rest of the season

I was thinking about it a little more and I wonder whether they've got rid now to avoid paying an 'avoid relegation' bonus. He was on a very short contract and might be cheaper to pay him off the wages due until December instead of the bonus if he was in charge at the end of the season and they were still in PL

I did wonder about that, but it's a shitty thing to do if that's the case, keeping them up will have saved them millions of pounds as well as being in the PL, surely his bonus is peanuts in comparison. Also as I mentioned before they aren't safe yet (not that I think Pearson would have masterminded them to a win in any of their remaining games), I can only imagine that there has been some huge rift between him and the players but even so it's a very odd time to get rid.

It's a weird thing to do in order to inspire other youngsters. I don't get it.

Hodgson deflecting the blame for Palace's poor form on to his best player....

Wilfried Zaha is "so set on leaving" Crystal Palace, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson says.

The 27-year-old Ivory Coast forward was linked with moves to both Everton and Arsenal last summer.

However, a deal failed to materialise and Hodgson says the speculation impacted on the player this season.

"It's obviously affected him because his form in the last few weeks has really been quite poor considering what he is capable of doing," Hodgson said.

If they actually contested that and won, then you're opening footballs version of Pandora's box. I cant happen.

You were shit for the whole season, don't blame the tech.

I do have some sympathy for them in that regard, it was an enormous and almost unprecedented cock-up. But as you say they can't win that or the whole system falls down, clubs would be challenging every major decision that goes against them.

Arsenal go behind early in the Cup Final, but have a pen here now after Pepe was denied a brilliant equaliser for offside in the buildup.

1-1...Aubameyang
