...pity he was never that good as a player.

He has improved a bit, but can't escape the face he still sometimes comes across as being a bit thick...

I watched his documentary about depression the other night. Was very impressed with him. He had a reputation as the silly class clown and obviously played up to it. It's great to see the other side of him, being so open about his problems. We all know somebody who has, or is affected by depression. Fair fucks to the man.

Was tempted to watch it myself, but I imagine it's a bit grim and I would need to be in a certain mood. Will maybe record it for when I start back on the beer and watch it some evening.

Not grim really. He seems to be in a good place now. The interview with Chris Kirkland was an eye opener. Depression is a bit like flu, at one stage or another we all get it. I've been there.

Can understand the beer! I was sipping away at the wine during it!! It helps!

Think this loss could be a blessing in disguise. With our usual the front three, we would have won 5-0 but this game has shown that we need to bridge that gap between first team attackers and reserves with at least one top class signing. Its too much to think that front three will carry us all season.

I very much doubt the front 3 would have turned that game around. What has concerned me pre season has not been the attack (what can you expect with what we have available on tour) it’s the lack of fluidity from the middle that has starved the youngsters of service.

It’s the defensive and midfield performances that have looked slightly worrying. Seemed very open and poor with our tactical discipline, especially last night, but then it’s only pre season and I suppose the key is fitness right?

I think wed be ok with 1 reserve as you call them to fill in but not all three playing together in place of our usual three.

The matches in the US are always on crappy makeshift pitches in baking heat. You can't really read too much into them.

Every year, fans and press seem to make more of friendly matches than they actually need to.

That cuntish Spurs fan I know couldn't stop banging on about their win against Juventus, which is just bizarre.

The amount of football some of our players have played over the last year is worrying, Mane in particular has had almost no rest. I imagine he won't start the season as he's not been through much of a preseason and needs time. It also feels like we haven't got to the stage of letting our regular players play most (75+) of a preseason game yet. Having not brought in anyone and less than 2 weeks to the transfer deadline I'm starting to worry we haven't done enough. I feel like we really need at least a couple of the youngsters to really step up this season.

Yes I agree. I think we need one more to bridge that gap in case 2 out of the usual front 3 cant play.

I think they will squeeze in an extra holiday at some point during the season for Mane. League cup game and an easyish league fixture, let him miss both and have a little break. I think we've done similar with Salah in the past too if I remember correctly?

We should easily be letting Mane miss the Charity Shield, Norwich and the Super Cup.

Gini gets the 2nd.

He's been decent in an advanced role......we've actually been OK, despite the early goal.

I've completely tuned out the pre-season stuff, it's just fitness and tactics at the moment, the results are just for the people turning up on the day.

I'm pretty sure Klopp doesn't care notwithstanding any issues he thinks might carry on into the season.

Of course Klopp cares if we aren't getting good results pre season, it certainly isn't the end of the world but obviously would be nice to win against decent opposition ....not that Jurgen will come out and say that though.

A few injuries to our front lads and we may be in trouble although Derek 2 in 2 now.

Just glad the US part of the pre-season is out of the way now to be honest.

I often make the same joke about pre-season results being important, but I actually do think we need a couple of decent performances, especially defensively, in these next couple of games before we play City.

Our defending has been woeful, particularly from set-pieces.

Not too worried at this stage, but with our first team players back, we should be expecting massive improvement in the next two games.

I suspect that Klopp's main job now is to get them to forget about the triumph at the end of last season...pump them up...get the desire going...and then we hope that the late return of the front 3 doesn't derail us in the first month.
