Are Kenny's quotes aimed at Carragher?

Because he did not walk straight back into the team. I think so........

Kenny Dalglish has warned his squad they must be prepared to accept their share of bench duty — and anyone threatening the Anfield harmony will be shown the door.

The Liverpool manager proved once again last week that price tags or reputations will not influence his selection policy when he named 35million Andy Carroll, 20m Stewart Downing and 16m Jordan Henderson among his substitutes at Chelsea.

Wait your turn: 35m man Andy Carroll rarely enjoys a start for Liverpool
‘It is not pleasant and it is understandable there’s disappointment if you are not playing every game,’ said Dalglish. ‘It is a long season and everyone is going to be given their chance. But if they are not committed to playing, we will go and get people who are determined to play.’

Dalglish also passed up the chance to hand Jamie Carragher an instant recall at Stamford Bridge after his recovery from a calf problem and it is likely Liverpool’s vice-captain will have to play second fiddle again to Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger for Sunday’s visit of Manchester City.

I'm not sure it was directed specifically to one player like Carra in this instance.

To me, it is the message to everybody in the squad that no place is guaranteed and no one is indispensable (bar Suarez ) as we finally have depth and each player will have to do their absolute best all the time (during the training sessions and when called upon) if they want to impress Kenny to get the chance to play some quality minutes or not.

I think it is just aimed at everyone, now is a convenient time to bring it up as players like Carragher, Downing and Carroll who have been regulars for most of the season have now found themselves on the bench. It's a reminder for everyone to earn their place, there is clearly a way back as over recent weeks people have been saying that Maxi was out in the cold, now he's worked his way back in.

yeah, I don't think this is aimed at anyone just stating a fact that all the players should know and realise anyway.

I don't think there are many people that hate or even dislike Carragher. I think that most fans have a huge respect for him, but appreciate that he's getting older, and perhaps isn't able to consistently play at the same level he used to. I think alot of the comments people have made are as much out of frustration that none of the other defenders have been consistently playing at a level which which would put pressure on Carragher's place in the team, as anything else.

This seem like a generally comment aimed at anyone thinking that their reputation should mean that they warrant a starting place regardless of their form in training and on the pitch. That said I think the team that beat Chelsea last weekend should play this weekend. Maxi and Suarez have this connection and it really works.

I thought Maxi had a bit of a nothing game really, and Suarez was not at his best either. So, if anything, the combination didnt work at all

Reading a bit much into that to point it at Carragher I reckon. He's only been available for one game since. I hope its more than that tbh, the Agger / Skrtel partnership has looked good.

Yeah he only scored a goal at Stamford Bridge in his first league start this season. Agree with you about Suarez though.

You can still score and have a bad game. Torres did it enough for us. So did Owen.

Dalglish is clearly aiming at Carragher/Gerrard/Carroll/Downing/Adam/Johnson/Henderson/__________ [insert other whipping boy of choice].

It's obviou.

Understand what you're saying but I thought Maxi had a very good first half, his passing and movement were good, I can't remember him misplacing a pass all game which is the norm for Maxi. The thing about Maxi is that his mere presence on the pitch seems to influence his team mates into playing modern, fluid pass and move football.
He did fade in the second half though which was to be expected considering his lack of game time so far this season.

He wasnt poor. But due to his recent high standards this year, I thought he was a bit flat. Especially second half as you say. Which is when we really needed him.

In the first ten minutes he already had the Chelsea defence unsettled with his clever movement in behind the defence and that set the tempo for the rest of the half. He could possibly have drawn a couple of fouls on another day or maybe made more of the chances if a bit match sharper, but he had the defence worried from the start.

I thought he played well.

These words probably are though

Quote:
"Carra has only been back a week after his calf injury," said Dalglish. "He's an important part of this football club and of this squad, now and going forward. He knows that and we know that.

"We know what he's done for the football club. The respect and admiration he has here from myself and everyone else connected. He understands."

If a player is scoring goals he can have whatever kind of games he wants to have. Goals win football matches, splitting hairs does not.

Splitting hairs is what keeps the contributors to this site busy 24/7.

Welcome by the way.
