Moody's elbow glued to the ground on scrums. 3 in a row, no call on it yet.

That’s why they are so good.

20 mins under the cosh and they capitalise on a couple of mistakes to go 10-3 up.

Pollard's missed kick started the demise. Can't afford to miss basic kicks like that at this level.

Yep, that led to the loose pass from de Klerk, and since then the ABs have come to life.

A tough score board to take after such a strong start from you lot.

You had them on the ropes a bit and they were being forced into errors but there isnít a better side in the world at exploiting opposition errors than them. A couple of lose passes and they punish you.....chasing the game against them plays into their hands.

HT next score is crucial.

Small margins but SA will wonder how they are 17-3 down.

100% Electric start, but I didn't get my hopes up, remember, we play them several times a year and I'm used to this. Many people saying that they're not that good this year, maybe compared to All Black teams but still head and shoulders above mere mortals.

Can't believe how flat and unimaginative they've gotten now.

Mapimpi was actually rather lucky because he easily could have gotten a yellow on another day. This game is definitely far from gone, but need to do something early next half. Obviously the ball is slippery in Japan, but some of those handling errors weren't acceptable (Pieter-Steph there at the end, he wasn't even under pressure).

Yeah, you lot need to clear heads and stat agin, there was a lot to be encouraged by. That knock on at the end was brutal.

The second try was amazing.

They are so effective at kick chase.

Blitz defence against them looks knackering to carry out for 40 another mins though.

And in contrast to Kolbe, Willie has been absolutely horrendous under the high ball.

Game on.

Exhausting passage of play.

Looked like a blatant offside in the middle of it all though?

I thought so too. Kolbe got the territory for that out of nothing. Box kicking has been shit from Faf today.

Conditions look exhausting.

The way we try to play is not going to work out well in heat and humidity.

Should have scored there. Le Roux has been a liability today. Thought Smith may have lost it forward there. Brilliant kick from Barrett, relieved they didn't score again haha.

I didn't think SA tried to get the ball to Kolbe nearly often enough, but equally although he had a couple of moments of brilliance I couldn't help thinking he's lost some pace.

He looks bulkier - maybe that has something to do with it or has he had an injury?

He was shit for Wasps all last season and half the season before. I'm amazed there's no one better?

Not sure about him losing pace, he was the quickest player on the pitch. Think he couldn't convert due to isolation and final pass received being a bit shit. Huge fan of his and he was outstanding yesterday. Hopefully it isn't a serious injury. He's always been given a bit of a ride, should have been in the Boks squad on his Stormers form years ago.

When he first broke onto the scene he was magic, people were comparing him to Campese and Hennie le Roux. The running and stepping have disappeared these last 5 years. He's never been the best aerially but should bring other aspects to play. He's played basically every game for Rassie and think Rassie wants consistency in his selection and possibly experience with the other fullbacks and wings haven't played a ton of test rugby.

Gelant is the only natural option he is a talented player, but doubt he'll play as he's young and inexperienced at this level. Other obvious option would be moving Kolbe to fullback and play Nkosi on the wing which would add more physicality too.

I don't think Steyn has played fullback in a million years, but could be a shout. I'd actually try Jesse Kriel at fullback and see how he goes. Most of his rugby has come at centre and occasionally the wing, but he could definitely add something at 15. Willie doesn't deserve to start after this game.

Standards have dropped some bit since the days of Andre Joubert and Percy Montgomery. Would maybe have brought Dillyn Leyds in ahead of Gelant but he blows hot and cold, Combrink is a good option but he is often injured and Willemse is more of a flyhalf.

Excellent first half from Ireland. Crushed the life out of Scotland there, didn’t allow them into the game at all.

See if they can do anything for the second half, it’ll be a tall order though.

Typical second half mountain to climb.

Ireland too streetwise for us. And clinical.

Agree with most of the commentary. We only have one way of playing, and it’s high risk stuff so when it’s not happening we don’t have anything else.

We should have gone through the phases when we had territory, but the Irish look so strong at the breakdown.

This game pretty much sums up our Rugby under Townsend where you could argue we’ve gone backwards since Vern Cotter.

I’d be tempted to get Ali Price on sooner rather than later.

Ya we need more of the same but it is attritional out there, POM off, Sexton can't goal kick and other players banged. Scotland have to go for it and we saw vs England how dangerous they can be.

Our bench is strong though, especially up front.

Hard luck Buzzo - ye’ll need to regroup as Samoa and Japan will smell blood. If we played our game and ground you down we would be too strong up front. I’m happy we managed the game and feel we may more in the tank but already a few injuries.

Bonus point a big plus - v happy

We were well beaten today. Congrats to the Irish.

The only crumb of comfort to me was the impact from the bench. I think a lot of the guys who came on will have strong cases for starting the bigger games. Laidlaw provides control but we need the platform to require that and we didn’t get near it today. Price provides pace and momentum it’s time for him to step up and claim the Jerry full time.

Ultimately we will most likely have a massive game to come v the Japanese.

Whys this Aussie bloke been sighted for a "dangerous tackle"?

From what i see he runs into a steaming locomotive and tries to grab him but just bounces off him. That Fijian dude is an absolute animal!!
