Dejan Lovren

Dejan Lovren seals Liverpool transfer

Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of defender Dejan Lovren from Southampton.

The 25-year-old Croatian international today put pen to paper on a long-term deal with the Reds after completing his medical.

Lovren becomes Brendan Rodgers' fifth signing of the summer and the third arrival from St Mary's, following the capture of striker Rickie Lambert and midfielder Adam Lallana.

Upon finalising his Anfield move, the centre-back told Liverpoolfc.com: "It's a dream come true. I'm happy and glad to be here. I'm proud and can't wait to start. I know we have millions and millions of supporters - Liverpool is more than a club.

"After I played at Anfield last season, I said to myself: 'One day I hope I'll be able to play here for Liverpool'. The fans will know from the first minute that I'm a player that will give 100 per cent on the pitch."

Would never have picked him as our top CB target but they know a lot more about him than I do. Looking forward to seeing him in action.

So our two most expensive centre backs (the glove and the new boy) only just cost more together than united paid for ferdinand

Got a good feeling about this signing. Him and Sakho are going to be a wall for us hopefully.

I think Lovren is a very good centre back. We'll be more solid from now on.

Welcome. You're overpriced but so is everyone this summer so what can you do. Hope you are playing alongside Sakho in the meanest defence in the league this season.

He'll bring a badly needed voice to our defence, I thought our communication between players at the back was poor last season.

I like Lovren, think he will be a very good signing for us. We need a commanding CB, and I believe he will provide some leadership to the back four and give more stability.

Welcome and hope he works well with Sakho - both speak French at the very least

Just pointing out that people say lovren and sakho costnalot well how many years ago did they buy Ferdinand? Look at transfer inflation over that period and the two to get her cost why 35m and Ferdinand cost 32.5 all those years ago

Wouldn't ever have thought we'd go for him but he'll be a starter & hopefully he can turn into a top defender.

Another area addressed, our defence at times was a shambles last year so I'm pleased the manager has got his first choice. Hopefully this can prove to be a masterstroke

Some fantastic leaning skills. I think our great tradition is in safe hands.

The way he effortlessly attaches to the post in that third pic. Classic stuff.

Let's not judge him too soon.

In the second pic he was clearly stiff so he may not be the consistent performer Sami was, but there's much promise.

yeah i'm pleased with the signing....

look at the fee and think hmmmm

but - there isn't really an abundance of top centre halfs around is there? When you look that arguably Arsenal, United plus even Barca all want/need at least one top centre half - we seem to have identified our target and go out and get him.

good move for me

He was our only target at CB, there doesn't even seem to have been a backup. We obviously think he's exactly what we need.

It's a big transfer this in the sense that we need this one to work. It was a glaring area of weakness last season that ended up costing us the title. We need to find a partnership this season that works and that looks like it will be Lovren plus another. Fingers crossed.

i'd hope (would like ) to see Sakho settle fully and show his potential because he clearly has the ability to be a top centre half - a centre back pairing of lovren/sakho - with skrtel pushing them for a starting position looks healthy to me.....ideally need one more to give us extra cover so i'd suspect that Coates/Toure may be given a stay of execution because agger is too good to be a '4th' choice, but clearly has dropped out of the pecking order to start.

the way i see it - on paper, agger and skrtel had the potential to be a top class centre pairing - and whilst both have had some great moments....for whatever reason it's never quite materialised and it's time to try something new
