I've watched the game again this morning and we were rampant for 70/75 minutes. We basically played a 2-5-3 and suffocated the life out of Arsenal. For 20 minutes in the second half we were sensational and this isn't a shit Arsenal side.

This team is close to being as good if not better as the Liverpool team of 87/88.

Definitely out of us and City this season. How massive are those two fixtures going to be!!

I do think this is the best Liverpool team I have watched.

I thought Rafas was close to being champions but the bar has risen so much now. I thought Suarez was fuckin amazing that year - but we have 4 or 5 top players now.

This is probably the first time I have looked at our team and thought "not sure how you improve that first 11". Obviously you can get better starting midfielders, and you could rattle off some of the top players in the world. But our team functions so fuckin well together. I think that Klopps thoughts around recruitment this year might have been "lets not take away match focus trying to integrate new players into the way we play this year"

We play City at the start of November. Before that, we still have Chelsea and United away and Spurs at home. And Burnley away this weekend is a tough game too. Whilst City play nobody decent really. If we are still neck and neck with them by then, I think we will go and fuckin win the thing this season.

We definitely have more quality around the team, less reliance on just one or two (gerrard, suarez) elite players.

I still think Poch is very good, but not sure whatís going on there.
Even when they were getting results before this spell, their performances last season were often pretty poor.

I think de Jong could have made a difference.

So are we deliberately not discussing Laporte's injury because it may be a ruse and he'll be fit and ready in two weeks?

he'll be out for a few weeks max, looking at their fixtures they'll be fine without him other than coming to Anfield.

They wont have problems in the league until Feb/March when CL knock out kicks in.

City are saying the Laporte injury is serious - could be a ruse but to what end?

Their fixtures are -

Norwich (A)
Shakhtar (A)
Watford (H)
Preston NE (A)
Everton (A)

I fancy Shakhtar and Everton to take something from those games. Otamendi is shite.

Hard to have much optimism of them dropping any Premier League points with that fixture list to be honest.

They'll score 4+ against Norwich
Watford will be a walkover too.
And that leaves, erm, Everton

After that they have Wolves at home, and Palace away. Every so slightly more hope of a slip up with one of those.

We really will have to hold our nerve and keep racking up the wins if we want to stay ahead.

You never know when either of us will get a random bad result (has to happen some time!) but most likely we'll have to win 20 in a row just to stay ahead of them! Insane times.

Moving along.

It appears Laporte may not play this year. I don't think that affects them in the short term looking at their fixtures but could bite them at some point. Stones and Otamendi wouldn't fill me with confidence i have to say.

I never like to see any player get injured... unless he plays for one of our rivals... or united..

This is great news.. hopefully will have a similar impact to when Fernandinho was injured last year, with them slipping up in games that are very winnable on paper!

Ironic that it was one the infamous, cynical fouls that City employ which injured Laporte. Talking of cynical fouls, the absence of Fernandinho this season has meant City have looked more open. Rodri has been good but doesn't appear to have fully mastered the dark arts which Fernandinho perfected and allowed him 100 fouls per booking.

Although they have won convincingly all games bar Spurs, they did cough up big chances in every game. Ironically it was the Spurs game where they appeared to concede less big chances.

Without Fernandinho in the holding role and their best defender in Laporte missing, teams should be able to get at City more, especially through set pieces. Kompany leaving is another huge plus, it was his presence, last season, in the last set of games IMO that kept the balance in City's favour and meant we agonisingly missed out.

What’s the story with Laporte?

Supposedly 4/5 months - him and Sane out for a long period of time should surely catch up with them....

An injury to Aguero next please.

Itís not sporting, but we need any help we can get after last season.
