Just realised we left a fight out for tonight...
...The WBO heavyweight title is on the line tonight. Ok it is a bum title, but Shannon Briggs brings some interest to the fight for me, and I think he could cause a little upset tonight. I was following him on K1, and again once he returned to boxing. The guy has the power to win the fight, and he seems to have developed a mental toughness over the years.
He was always entertaining in a "knock guys out easily until he meets a decent fighter" kind of way.
I'm rooting for him tonight, to bring a little colour and character to the ranks of the alphabet champions.
Shows how bad the heavyweight division has become, that a guy, who on his best day was never more than decent, is fighting for a title completely under the radar.
The days when being the heavyweight Champion of the world meant that you were "The Man" have long been counted out.

Alex Arthur is also fighting tonight.
Fight is on ITV [scottish at least] around 11pm tonight.
Most of Arthurs recent fights have turned into battles. This should be a good 'un.

That will be a right scrap methinks. He is a right little battler, I quite like watching him fight, he is a gutsy s.o.b

I'm hoping Arthur gets the business done tonight. There is talk of a world title fight if he's able to retain his European title tonight.

If he keeps his head(no pun intended) he is more than good enough to win tonight.

Doing well so far.
There's a woman in the crowd whose voice is bloody annoying.

Have seen arthur fighting a couple of times. A good fighter he is, dont think he will ever be top of the tree though, one fight of his sticks in my mind, his fight with Michael Gomez, what a great fight that was, went one way then the other, before Gomez came out the victor. Pity gomez is such a dizzy bastard because he could have made something of himself.

Gomez gave Arhur a right hammering a few years back.
Nice to see that Arthur has picked himself up since that defeat.
He's due a world championship fight now.

I really hate when ITV stick a mic in a boxer's face just after he has stepped out of the ring. Arthur is an articulate lad though.

Briggs got the win last night, and boy did he leave it late.
The Referee called the fight at 2:59 in the 12th round.
Briggs was well behind going into the 12th round and needed a stoppage. Near the end he got a knockdown, and when Liakhovich got up, Briggs unloaded again, and Liakhovich went through the ropes.
Was not a good fight though, was quite boring until the end, Liakhovich's gameplan was to avoid being hit, and Briggs' seemed to be trying not to run out of gas from the 5th onwards.
Still it was nice to see Briggs win a belt though. I would expect him to get a huge media boost across the Atlantic now, him being the only American to hold a belt will have the Yanks talking him up like the second coming for a bit.

2.59 in the 12th round?
Ha Ha.
Hois opponent must be gutted.
Briggs is quoted on the BCC as saying 'if i had not won this fight otnight i'd have gone home and shot myself in the head'
Boxers, mental? na.
