I know but I canít imagine Townsend going without there being a proportional representation from Scotland. Iím hoping for 5-6. We will see.

Iíd be amazed if that many donít tour - I am not sure how many will start in the test but a v strong chance of 3 or 4. I saw that it may be a reduced squad which will make it v tough getting into the squad

He has some huge calls with the England lads, particularly the Sarries ones who had poor 6Ns and now are playing Championship. When he had brutal calls to make previously, say with the Scots he made them. Will he go with loyalty this time, but in doing so perhaps undermine the credibility of what the Lions is all about?

I’d have hoped for one of our front row Fagerson or Sutherland, Watson, Russell, Hogg and Van see Merwe. Outside of that Gray, Price, Harris and Ritchie all put forward strong cases for inclusion. Out of that lot surely 5 or 6.

Garland used the Lions to improve the Wales squad last time, so how this tour could improve some of our players would be fascinating to see.

Back row and second row are the biggest competition - I donít see Gray making it tbh - Jones, Itoje, Ryan, Beirne (because he plays back row) and possibly Gray

Racing lose having got themselves into extra time position with mins to go.

Pens all the way so far in the Clermont Toulouse game also. Strange.

Leinster away to La Rochelle and Toulouse at home to Bordeaux. Nice narrative in the first game

That's good news for the Pro14.

I was literally just listening to him and White Chocolate (his nickname for Finn) on a Podcast last night. I think he has become slightly marginalised at Racing, and he clearly misses international Rugby.

He seemed guaranteed to tour.

Will be interesting to see who comes in, my bolter for a muscular centre now that North isn't going is Chris Harris who has phenomenal defence and had a brilliant 6NS, very much a Gatland type of player. I think the big dilemma here is that North could cover wing and centre. So that changes the dynamic of the entire squad as there isn't really anyone (who isn't already going to be selected) that can do the same.

Loads of fascinating discussions to be had ahead of the selection next week.

Just saw the score and will watch the highlights - fancied LR as was in France and no Sexton. Delighted for ROG but disappointed an Irish side didnít win it - my Munster buddies despise Leinster but it doesnít bother me as much

It’s just good to see different teams in the final.

It was a close game until the final 1/4. Pretty even first half, But Larochelle kept gaining more and more control.

LR won the battle at the breakdown , which you don’t often see v Leinster.

Hopefully it’s a good final and not the same as the 2 all French 1/4’s which were terrible.

Almost every predicted squad seems to be heavily weighted without Scots. And every excuse under the sun to load the squad with English players, including those not selected for 6Ns (I agree with Simmonds). So I’m intrigued.

I think we will get, at least, Watson one of Fagerson or Sutherland, Russell, Van der Merwe and Hogg. But I think a fair representation should give us 7 players.

There will be some really good players who don’t make it.

I think Billy Vinipola will be a big name casualty. Mako also possibly.

The England pack was dominated by the other home nations so hard to make a case for many except Itoje, Curry and maybe Cowan-Dickie.

Is that 8 Scots, 8 Irish, 11 English, 10 Welsh?

No Sexton, tough on him, but, maybe not on his long term health.

Chris Harris - who had an outstanding 6N's tournament - the big winner after Norths injury.

Bundee Aki was in nobodys Lions squad, I guess Tuilagi is nowhere near fitness wise.

Watched it live and a running chat with mates on WhatsApp - not analysed in detail but the Irish view is -

- Sexton has been injured and his fitness is too much of a concern for a tour. Still playing v well but not worth it
- Ryan was a banker 18 months ago but has tailed off with a bad injury again so we felt he was at risk and it came out
- CJ, O’Mahony, Ringrose were outside shots but didn’t make it
- Conan is a surprise.....no frills but steps up when needed
- Bundee A is a huge surprise but I guess with no North the physical presence was needed

Will go through in detail over the days to understand who else missed out

There were some close to impossible selection calls, given the strength and depth of the 6N's.

Really glad for Sam Simmonds, he was absolutely shafted by Eddie Jones.

Glad to see Finn tour. He offers something nobody else does and if the Lions are chasing second half, then he is the ideal player to bring on. What he could do with some decent ball in a Lions shirt could be really exciting to watch.

There were probably about 8-10 flankers who would have felt they were in with a shout.
