Yep, it's certainly changed a lot.
I know Evertonians mention Heysel and subsequent European ban but it didn't seem to spoil the spirit of the '86 Cup Final. And '89 was OK too.
It seems to have got worse since then.
Strangely that's when football changed enormously with the Premier League, Sky, massive hype, obscene amounts of money... Perhaps that's just a coincidence.

Got nothing against them. There's always going to be some cunt fans at every team who spoil it for everyone else. Obviously I ain't from Liverpool so don't understand the rivalry as well but my experience of Everton fan's has been fine.

Thats it though Craig, I was having what I thought was a football conversation before it ended up in just abuse. They're so bitter about the rivalry now its untrue, the default position seems to be "Yeah well, fuck off" first before you can converse with them.
I think its good for the city to have two good sides who can challenge. When they had their cup run a couple of years ago, I dropped a message onto a facebook "friend" (ex work colleague) wishing them the best for whatever cup tie they had, can't remember now. All I got back was shite like how Rafa was shite, how we'd never win anything, 2 man team etc. I deleted him. Every european game Liverpool played in, it was always hand rubbing glee every time we drew or lost. Really pathetic.
I've noticed it degenerate first hand since I moved down here. They're not all like that, but a lot are twisted up with hate against LFC in the first instance, and then they support their own team. Pathetic.

It is just pure jealousy on their part. I believe that if they were run by a board who knew what they were dong they could easily be a very successful club but they choose to back some gimp who has as much business knowledge as the chuckle brothers.
Everton FC are a club that could easily attract a good buyer but i suspect good old bill is only interested in people stupid enough to buy the club but keep him on as chairman. Which is why no one has bought the club.
Everton should be in a position to be able to afford to build a new ground on their own and the Kirkby project would have been perfect as it would have helped the club move forward and would have also changed the town for the better.
Everton been shit s nothing to do with LFC and a groundshare is out of the question. The Everton fans need to rise up like we did but there is the problem in itself as they would never do what the redshite fans did so i have been told by some of their fans.
They would rather go out of business than do anything that resembles what we did.

This is a big reason for the split, many bitters believe we stopped them marching through Europe winning everything in sight, because of the ban, this deprived them of 500 billion pounds of Sky/UEFA money and is the main reason they are so shit, all our fault, totally 100%.
Sad to admit I hate them as much as the Mancs, Mancs for their sucess and Bluteshite for their fans.

In Liverpool pubs for the derby, Everton fans don't actually discuss whats going on, they just grunt and make loud disappointed growling noises, punctuated with swearing and arm waving. Its very regressive and base level.

Yes, they blame the European ban, so therefore blame us, but when they (and everyone else) were banned from Europe it was all OK (hence the example of the two FA cup finals). So it's not the European ban really, that's just a convenient rationale, a received wisdom, that many of them have adopted.

I know loads of Evertonians and have no problem with any of them. There's a bit of banter, but not cuntish bitterness. I've only been to a handful of derby games and there is a hatred and intensity during the game which vanishes once everybody spills out of the ground. I agree with Neil that we should rise above the nastiness and be sympathetic - the nastier element would really hate that.
I obviously wouldn't want them to become more successful than ourselves, but I hope they are competitive again some time soon. The rivalry is important to both clubs and the city. The thing which surprises me more than anything is that the Evertonians are not making noise like we did, they should be more vocal and get organised. In that respect I would suggest that they lack the same passion for their football club, or maybe it's just malaise has set in over the years - their fans need to wake up if they're going to save their club.

Could it be that to an extent we knew what we were missing out on a lot more then they did...? Like we had some serious glory days of titles and European Cups and we knew what we were missing...?

the one major issue they have though is their ground...
it's a fucking shed....it's worse than ours. it'd probably cost £200m to just bring it into the millenium - it's one of the worst grounds in the league.
Add to that, that they rarely sell out - and investors will be put off - whats the point in spending a few hundred million on a ground that needs it but doesn't sell out.
I reckon everton's best hopes at a takeover would a something more like Venky's at Blackburn

I think the days of big buyouts is over, that's as long as FIFA ge their way with the fair play rules. You have to now be investable and the bitters are not.

Blue Union – An open letter to Bill Kenwright
Quote:

We believe the time has arrived to initiate a change at Goodison Park; not simply a change for changes sake, we’re proposing a historic change, a change that will act as the catalyst for Everton, our manager and our players, to once again have the opportunity to become a truly competitive force in English top flight football.
We would like to clear up a misconception; nobody believes there’s a magical solution to Everton’s financial situation, nobody believes there’s a stockpile of money or that every penny possible hasn’t been used for the benefit of the team; all Evertonians appreciate that football is a business, a competitive business where owners are responsible for the delivery of funds to the manager through either personal investment or successful and cohesive commercial strategies.
A decade long search for investment has proved fruitless, and what remains inescapable is that during this time Everton’s business performance has resulted in a fundamental decline in the financial position of the club; specifically, a massive reduction in the balance sheet position, a substantial increase in debt and a real decline in operating profit. During this period Everton’s broadcasting income has increased by over 300% yet when it comes to developing our commercial income it is the inability to address the key issue of the stadium that has left us trailing in the wake of our peers. The consequence, of all of this, is there for all to see; despite protestations to the contrary, our club is unable to support our manager and therefore our team. At a time when over £485,000,000 was spent by other clubs investing in their core business activity, football, it is shameful that not a single penny was spent by Everton.
Nobody can refute that attempts to improve our financial performance haven’t been undertaken. Strategies, that have been implemented, by a succession of CEO’s, include, the sale of assets, borrowing, selling a percentage of the club, two potential ground moves and a proposal to build a new commercial centre at Goodison Park. The first two have been acknowledged as unsustainable and clearly cannot address Everton’s underlying financial problems, whilst the remainder have all failed to materialise. Many see the failure to deliver the truly world class King’s Dock stadium as the greatest missed opportunity in Everton’s history; whilst others now see the pursuit of the unfathomable, undeliverable and unsuitable Kirkby stadium as the greatest mistake by an Everton board in over 130 years.
There have of course been successes; yet even successes hide potential problems. Fifty years ago Sir John Moores purchased our then training ground for £26,000; last year it was sold for £9,000,000; sadly, this legacy from Sir John, was used to repay debt. The fantastic replacement training facility, Finch Farm, has been leased from another company for an astronomical amount of money payable over fifty years; this legacy, for future owners, will simply be one of debt.
We began by explaining that we all understand that football is a business, but, Mr Chairman, as a fellow Evertonian, we think you of all people will agree that football clubs are far more than this; they’re cultural assets and their owners are mere custodians who have a responsibility not only to the business, under the companies act, but also to their fans and the future generations of fans who will support our club when we are no longer here. With this in mind we would ask you to have the courage to accept that the performance of the current board has fallen far below that which is required and we are requesting that you should initiate the following action.
We respectfully request that that you, Messrs Earl, Woods, Carter and all Everton shareholders, should agree on a mechanism to appoint an autonomous group of professionals that will undertake the identification and selection of potential buyers of the club who will oversee the sale to the potential owner who can best demonstrate the resources, ability and a genuine desire to take the club forward on both a commercial and football level.
Mr Chairman, it is a long time since the club’s Latin motto has been adhered to; faced with a difficult and momentous decision we would asked you to be guided by another, facta non verba.
The Blue Union

What are they hoping to achieve?
Kenwright has been looking to sell for a long time and he and his cronies can't find a buyer. They've got no money, thus the lack of signings.
imo they're going to have to get far worse to get any better (well not unless a sugar daddy buys them) - If they go in to administration and restructure their debts it may make them more attractive to investors, who in theory could start again with a clean slate. The obvious problem with that is that the club would be asset stripped and likely relegated
