If the CPS don't bring criminal charges, (i don't know how they could make this decision but I am making that assumption on the fact that they are "considering" to make charges) then it will surely be a bigger kick.
Surely they HAVE TO bring criminal charges.
Unbelievable day though. Made up for the families of the 96 victims. Also, so apt that this is the final year of the Hillsborough memorial service.

They should never have had to go through years of pain to get to this point. It is terrifying what our establishment and institutions are capable of. At least our legal system managed to stay impartial and deliver some truth. My thoughts are with all those families today.

Apparently the only national paper not to tweet the verdicts is you know who, be interesting to see if they cover the story at all tomorrow.

I was at the 2 semi finals at Hillsborough in 88 & 89 and I am so relieved the families and those of us who survived have finally received this verdict
I didnt think we would get such an emphatic verdict

Huge verdict, finally acknowledging publically what we have known all along, surely the CPS will have to bring prosecutions now.

There have been so many travesties of Justice it was hard to believe that there would not be a sting in the tail today. But there has not been, and to see the families celebrating today is incredible.
I was at the time a 14 year old Scottish LFC fan, who idolised Kenny Dalglish. I remember listening to the game on the radio in the car whilst my Dad shopped at B&Q, I remember the reports as they came in. I remember the initial reports of crowd violence. i remember the reports of the LFC fans 'charging' at the Notts fans (they were looking to get the advertising hoardings for makeshift stretchers. And as with all supporters I have been consistently moved by the story - so I find it hard to imagine how those with a closer connection to events than I have feel today.
Its a tragedy and follow up story unimaginable in its scale. A corruption that runs so deep that it has to make you question everything that we are told. But a move towards justice that makes you believe that there are also people out there who do care.

I'm absolutely over the moon today. I never thought we'd get the unlawful killing verdict. Just reading reports about how the jury had to consider whether they believed Duckenfields actions to be considered unlawful killing felt like they were maybe being directed towards a no verdict (more to it than this sentence but you get the point).
I'll be going for a beer for our David tonight and I can't begin to imagine how his brother and mother (my cousin and aunty) must feel right now. Relief and joy tinged with a massive amount of sadness I imagine.

Time to shut the S** down.
They lied and contributed directly to a lying narrative causing 27 years of agony for families.

I'm overjoyed at this. I can't believe this has taken so long. I hope the police cover is properly investigated now because the slandering of the supporters greatly added to the distress of the families.
Also a nod to the survivors that day. They must have suffered also and are never really mentioned.
Peace for the 96.

'I do not accept the police apology', says victim's mother
The mother of a 17-year-old Hillsborough victim said she does not accept the apology from South Yorkshire Police.
Mary Corrigan, whose son Keith McGrath was one of the 96 who died in the disaster, said: "They have had 27 years to tell us the truth.and to say what happened.
"We have had to fight so many lies and they have the nerve to say they apologise today."

Andy Burnham, the Labour MP who has done arguably more than any politician to take the Hillsborough process to where it is today, has called for criminal prosecutions in the wake of the inquest. These are some of the quotes he have outside the court:
The question I’m asking is, how did something this simple take so long? ...
(On the verdicts): It exceeds anything that we could have expected. But it’s only what they deserve. This is justice for them. Their loved ones. Tonight, for the first time in 27 years, can rest in peace...
Now come accountability. Disgracefully, slurs have been thrown around in this courtroom about supporters of Liverpool football club. Disgracefully, the cover up has continued in this courtroom, Disgracefully, public money has been spent on those lies and putting these families through hell once again. I find that completely unacceptable.
People must be held to account for their actions. Prosecutions must follow.

Although 96 people died as a direct result of the tragedy, there are others who have since lost their lives indirectly - suicide, alcohol. In addition, there were many others who were injured physically but still suffer the psychological effects, not forgetting the 1000's in the stadium that witnessed the tragedy and were powerless to help. The ripple effect across the families and friends of the 96 is hard to imagine. Let's remember not just the 96, but spare a thought for everyone affected by the tragedy.

I've been choking back tears all day, I start to read, watch, listen and just well up. I've seen others say it, this isn't just a football thing, this is a monumental day in British history.

Michael Mansfield is looking his age.......
I just had a look at the S*n and they are carrying the story as a straight news piece, it'll be interesting to see if they allow an opinion or editorial article on it. Feel free to ignore the link below (that's why I borked it) but some might like to see them acknowledge it
