I had a double win. The missus came home from work and helped me cut branches to minimise volume. Anyway it knocked the puff out of her and she was in bed by 10 And she still plays to a fairly high level in sport, if you call hockey a sport.

I've been told I have reflux so I'm not drinking at all at the moment, it means I'm fresh in the evening. My missus was asleep on the sofa too which meant I could research bathroom products on the net interspersed with a bit of Est in peace

I'm shit at DIY and in a rental, and for work I sit behind a desk, so incidental exercise is next to nowt. Since I quit vaping and have no excuse to go outside I'd be on ~3k steps a day unless I force myself (I consider Wednesday a rest day as I work from home and that's usually what I'm at).
I do sometimes wish I was in a more active job, but then see people stuck outside doing stuff on 35 degree days and think fuck that.
Reflux is a bitch. Diet definitely works better for it than drugs.

Cheers fella. It's the cough that's killing me, there's no other discomfort. It's stopped me exercising properly too so I'm trying to do as many steps as possible and volunteering at work to do physical stuff.
I've cut down on portion sizes and am trying to eat earlier in the evening. I do need to shift 10kg though, you've been an inspiration

Thanks man, but I still need to shift about 20 so shouldn't be much of one
Don't worry so much about portion size so much as worrying about what the portion is. Chuck as much veggies / salad in there as you humanly can. Fill up on that shit. It won't make you fat or give you reflux (well, peas, beans, carrots and toms have carbs and need moderating to a degree, but not as much as other stuff). And you'll naturally eat less of the bad shit that does cause reflux.
My secret ingredient is cauliflower. Blend it up and chuck it in your spag bols, soups, stews whatever. It pads it out, has little taste, gives a creaminess if blended fine enough, makes it more filling and is pretty much free food. It's the greatest veg ever.

That beach looks vile, not sure how you cope
We've got my 2 step daughters living back at home at the moment. One's veggie and the other is Halal so doesn't eat meat that often. As a consequence Janet's cooking loads of veggie meals at home. I think I ate meat 3 times last week

I used to be one of those people who couldn't imagine a meal without meat. I'm genuinely considering vegan.
I'm not anti meat but health and resource wise it's better.
BVut yeah, the beach will be a struggle. Need a special pouch to hold my car keys so they wont get wet. 1st world problems etc.

I'd say it's harder to have a healthy diet adhering to veganism tbh

Each to their own and all that but trying to be vegan would be an absolute ball ache.
I made chicken and chorizo rissoto last night with midweek stock from a chicken. I'd prefer to die in a ditch that have treats like that taken away from me.

I've no intention to be vegetarian, I'd never order a vegetarian
main in a restaurant for instance, but I'm quite content to go mwst free for days on end sometimes
I'd miss bacon and chicken livers most

Crusade update
Me and my Vans managed 474km in September, a daily average of 15.8km. Not too shabby with 4 days scattered in between with no more than 3km a day
Off to a good start this month, with 8km before work this morning

I've never been overweight, but when my lifestyle is unhealthy I can get a little soft around the edges. I think it's because of the boxing I was involved in, find it very difficult to maintain training standards now that there's no reason to.
My fight weight was 64kg and I even did lightweight 61kg once. Not that I'm Ricky Hatton but my weight can fluctuate quickly. Since dropping that, I've only done cardio in the gym and the intensity is nowhere near the same. Until 2 months ago I was 76kg. I'm not so concerned about the weight, but the health and I as definitely letting things slip as people were calling me fat haha. I love it how genuine fat fucks, have no qualms telling an athletic person who has just lost their conditioning slightly that they're fat.
Started doing crossfit in addition to my running/cardio in the gym. I fucking hate it, but I've dropped 3kg and can feel that I'm significantly stronger than I've been in years. I've never lifted weights ever before in my life, which is something I feel I probably should have been doing for some years, considering that I'm over 30 and apparently testosterone levels decline after 30. My diet is still good, without being great but I try to avoid overeating - eating too much healthy food is still unnecessary calories. I also realise that I drink less, because I'm in the gym in the evenings opposed to the pub. So inadvertently I now probably drink 6 fewer beers a week which won't be doing me any harm.
<y running has also improved, not a fan of running if it's not connected to a sport, but I always do short runs. Whacking 4-8km out in significantly better times. Think the more variety in exercise and exposure to different things are a huge positive if you're looking for results in terms of increased fitness, muscle growth and fat loss.

Started Couch to 5k AGAIN yesterday. Probably the 5th time of asking. Ive completed it many times before, and stopped the second I hit the final week. So the aim this time is to push on to finish my first 10k.
Motivation this time is because I am the most unfit/out of shape I have ever been in my life. Weight has gone up to 17.5st. I was 15st when I met my partner, and I want to be back down around that.
I dont drink much anymore, but I stress eat A LOT and July/August was my most stressful months ever.

Finally bit the bullet and splurged some money on some decent trainers last night, 559km in 33 days had taken it toll. Mainly due to wearing out the inner sole in my beloved Vans. Rather than go to a normal sports shop I dropped by a specialist shop for running etc...
I was greeted by one of the assistants and asked if I wanted help. "Yes, I need some good trainers for walking and maybe later jogging" After a few questions from him on type of terrain, injuries, etc..also, support, damping heel drop and I am thinking wtf I just want to buy some trainers! Then we got down to fitting using a glass plate and mirror to see where my feet were being loaded weight distibution wise, etc...
He then disappeared into the store room and came out with 4 suitable pairs of trainers, thired them all with differing results. Back the store room with a little more knowledge of trainers and fit 4, he appeared again behind 4 more boxers of trainers. Neither of us were fully happy with the fit. Into the store room again and out again with 3 more pairs, these were the last that would be suitable. The last pair of these trainers were absolutely perfect for my feet.
I ended up with a brand I had never heard of before, Saucony Liberty Iso2 and parted with the equivalent of £180
I was out this morning test driving them before work. What a difference a decent pair of trainers makes. Pre trainer results, my normal pace would be 6kmh and I could hold 6.6 kmh pace for an hour. Post trainer results, 11km at 7.2kmh pace. I felt more upright and balanced when walking. My feet felt comfortable all of the time, no hint of blisters or rubbing and feet not sore after walking
Well chuffed to say the least

That brand make great running shoes, I've had about ten of them, well the omni range.
The shop should've done run gait analysis as well but it sounds like you got a good end result anyway.
Anyone doing any kind of miles should always get the right fitting shoe.

They offered the run gait analysis but I declined. I am more interested in walking/power walking than jogging on

Didn't realise his race was assisted with a team of runners running in a V formation in front of him who acted as a wind shield & kept on dropping in & out....!

They look like MBT's, so may have incorporated the 'barefoot' biomechanics with some sort of energy return system in those shoes.
I worry about record attempts like this. They did used to have pace setters in the odd league meeting. But using a laser to mark the pace and having a 'peloton' to carry you is starting to encroach on the etiquette of it being an individual sport.

Genuine question. Does having thicker soles make you taller and thus have a longer stride?

A little update......
Yesterday, on day 50 of the walking crusade I notched up 1000km
The first 500km took me 31 days, averaging 16.2 km/day. The last 500km 19 days, averaging 26.6km/day
My walking speeds are up considerably and I can hold 9.6kmh for 1.5 hours. Cruising speed is now 8.5 to 9 kmh. I went all in one day last week and did 42.2km (marathon distance) in 4 hours 38 minutes. My legs were shot after that, I needed to go to the shitter and started to lower myself on the seat, legs buckled and I collapsed onto it instead
I seem to have lost shitloads of weight, but I havent weighed myself as yet
I will keep the walking ticking over until I travel to Thailand midweek for a well earned break

Finally saw the physio today and pretty stoked
Bad news is 4-6 weeks of daily exercises and stretches until I can start running.
Good news is I can give running another go eventually
She reckons no permanent damage done, minor bone spur but nothing to worry about. I asked about a brace or strapping and was told that's for old people and people who are beyond help, you do lots of exercise so you'll be fine. Lol.

Update....
Just after hitting the 1000km mark. I had 12 days in Thailand doing my best to undo all of the good work Great for the legs, a much needed break.
Back from holiday and started walking again. A little different from before, as I have a habit of becoming obsessive (harder, faster, longer) with training and eventually hit the wall and just quit doing it completely. New training rules. Restrict my walking to 100km a week. Meaning when I reach the 100km mark, I stop training and go back to normal everyday walking
The first week I walked a total of 126 km. The second week 124 km and weighed in. Down 1kg, well pleased after a non stop partying holiday. 17kg off in total. Last week I walked 118 km and this week already over half my target km’s. My next weigh in is in 10 days....
Just wondering how Alex’s 6th attempt from couch sloth to 20k is going?

Badly. But I appreicate you asking to keep me honest.
I did 3 weeks of it. But my shoes feel apart, I went over on my ankle and I just never regained the momentum.
You have however made me think I need to get out there and make myself feel good about myself again. My MH has been poor recently, I have sat in and isolated myself more from the world.
Ill resolve to do more tonight.

Didnt get out last night, wont tonight either. But Friday is the plan now.
This is the nudge I needed to force myself back into physical activity.
Dont notice Im doing these things until I actually say them out loud like this.

Once you've got the bug again it becomes easier though right? It's getting over that initial desire to fuck it off. There's always a few bumps in the road, but you've got this
