Quote:
phil.coutinhoSince the moment I arrived in Liverpool , me and my family have been made to feel so welcome and have made so many friends.
On the pitch and off the pitch, we have experienced the beauty of this club and its fans. In turn, I hope I have delivered memories and moments that have brought happiness to the Liverpool supporters.
Moving to Liverpool, I knew the club’s greatness and history but what I did learn during my time was the unique heart and soul of the place. It has its own personality and character.
I leave Liverpool because Barcelona is a dream for me. Liverpool was a dream that I was fortunate enough to realise and I have given five years of my life to it. A career on the pitch only lasts for so long and to play for Barcelona as well as Liverpool is something I want to experience and enjoy while I am blessed enough to be able to do so.
I hope the supporters understand that choosing to experience something new is not about diminishing their importance to me or the club’s importance. Nothing will ever diminish that in my heart.
I wish Jürgen and the team nothing but joy and success for the rest of this season and beyond. This is an amazing team and they are getting better and better all the time.
There are too many people I want to thank, but I cannot name everyone individually.
To all the amazing club staff who have been part of my life in Liverpool - I will miss you. To the owners, whom have tried so hard to bring success, and to the football recruitment staff for showing faith in me to bring me here and rewarding me during that journey, and to my incredible teammates, past and present - even that shit cunt Aly Cissokho - who have helped me grow and improve as a player and a person, I would like to say thank you to you all. Anything I have achieved here would not have been possible without you.
And finally, to the most important people of Liverpool - the Liverpool supporters. I can never thank you enough for what you have given me during this time and no matter where I go in the world, for the rest of my life, I will always cherish Liverpool in my heart. You, the club and the city will always be a part of me.
You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Philippe.

It's the MO of their presidents though to not only buy players but for a good price. I presume so they get elected again. The accounts will tell us in about three years anyway.

Meh.
There's nothing in there which justifies leaving the club in the lurch in January.
Another 3 months wouldn't have killed him.

Absolutely no I’ll feeling towards phil or anyone else, what a player he was for us, seems genuinely a great bloke too. This move is a dream come true for him and I’m happy for him and his family. Thank you Phil.

Nothing in life is guaranteed and that includes the chance to join in the summer.
Also, once you've mentally checked out, it's hard to be at your best.

3 months isn't long, but potentially he would as always have been one shit tackle away from a long lay off; so i get why he wanted it to happen sooner rather than later

Sure I read somewhere about a potential transfer ban for Barca on the horizon (might have dreamt it up!) if so that would certainly have hurried them up to get the deal done.
Anyway, regardless he’s gone now, hope he does well at Barca as long as it’s not at our detriment

In fairness Barcelona did seem to lay the now or never card quite strongly and Iniesta is very much at the end of his career IMO.

It happened at a time when we have a decent squad capable of doing well without him. We got a lot of cash. It went about as well as it could have done for us I think.

It's a case of how capable you think that midfield is I guess.
It's definitely not worth getting worked up over. We could have held onto him and he could've done his ACL and we'd be in the same position. He was always going to go - it's just weakened us considerably for the second half of the season, I just hope we invest the money that's needed into the squad and we might be better for it.
He was crucial to our style so i expect we'll drop off in terms of goals scored and become less of an attacking force.

even with this better squad we still lack any creativity from midfield and whenever phil has been out we have really struggled to provide the bullets for our front men.
add to that mane having a run of poor form and the rest of the midfield hiding whenever possible i think his loss will be massive.
the only possible plus points is the arrival of vvd and possibly others that will plug other holes and lessen the loss of phil, the figlio di puttana.

Those stats say the opposite though?
Anyway I don't think we'll get top 4 without a really good replacement.

When he was in the team and we played the more physical sides, I always felt like we were half a man short on the pitch and vice versa with the less physical games I felt like we had a half a man extra.
Based on this and there being more physical teams in the PL I dont think we will miss him that much....
I also feel that Mane was more effective when cout wasnt playing

I think BM has those stats back to front.
1 8/12/17 A Liverpool FC (4.) Watford FC Watford (10.) 3:3 Back trouble
2 8/19/17 H Liverpool FC (9.) Crystal Palace Crystal Palace (19.) 1:0 Back trouble
3 8/27/17 H Liverpool FC (6.) Arsenal FC Arsenal (11.) 4:0 Back trouble
4 9/9/17 A Liverpool FC (2.) Manchester City Man City (4.) 5:0 Not in squad
5 9/16/17 H Liverpool FC (8.) Burnley FC Burnley (7.) 1:1 AM 79'
6 9/23/17 A Liverpool FC (8.) Leicester City Leicester (15.) 2:3 LW 1 1 79'
7 10/1/17 A Liverpool FC (5.) Newcastle United Newcastle (9.) 1:1 AM 1 90'
8 10/14/17 H Liverpool FC (7.) Manchester United Man Utd (2.) 0:0 LW 79'
9 10/22/17 A Liverpool FC (8.) Tottenham Hotspur Spurs (3.) 4:1 LW 90'
10 10/28/17 H Liverpool FC (9.) Huddersfield Town Huddersfield (11.) 3:0 Wound
11 11/4/17 A Liverpool FC (6.) West Ham United West Ham (16.) 1:4 Wound
12 11/18/17 H Liverpool FC (5.) Southampton FC Southampton (13.) 3:0 AM 1 1 69'
13 11/25/17 H Liverpool FC (5.) Chelsea FC Chelsea (3.) 1:1 LW 89'
14 11/29/17 A Liverpool FC (6.) Stoke City Stoke City (15.) 0:3 on the bench
15 12/2/17 A Liverpool FC (5.) Brighton & Hove Albion Brighton (10.) 1:5 AM 1 3 90'
16 12/10/17 H Liverpool FC (4.) Everton FC Everton (10.) 1:1 AM 12'
17 12/13/17 H Liverpool FC (4.) West Bromwich Albion West Brom (17.) 0:0 AM 90'
18 12/17/17 A Liverpool FC (5.) AFC Bournemouth Bournemouth (14.) 0:4 LW 1 1 87'
19 12/22/17 A Liverpool FC (4.) Arsenal FC Arsenal (5.) 3:3 AM 1 84'
20 12/26/17 H Liverpool FC (4.) Swansea City Swansea (20.) 5:0 LW 1 1 90'
21 12/30/17 H Liverpool FC (4.) Leicester City Leicester (8.) 2:1 AM 89'
22 1/1/18 A Liverpool FC (4.) Burnley FC Burnley (7.) 1:2 Hamstring Injury
Bold games are the PL games Coutinho missed. Watford we should have won, bar a late goal that was legally offside. City game obviously influenced by the dodgy red. Factoring in the demolition of Hoffenheim, some of our best performances have been without him.
That's not to say we won't miss him, we desperately will, but to say that we have lacked creativity and struggled to 'provide bullets' when he's been out this year is clearly not true.

We have mostly been without Lallana and I think with VVD we have a better chance of turning tight games into victories. It is obviously not a great thing to lose one of your best payers. My point was more that I think it was inevitable and the timing and value obtained were minimally bad.
If we get top four with the current squad and have the money to invest in the summer I think that would represent significant progress in terms of the building of a sustainable squad that can go on to win things and deal with players leaving or being injured.
