Offside - I’ll be honest this is the first game I’ve properly watched and the standard is superb. The US have some fantastic players and they have a bit of needle in them also.

I can't see this as a foul. They'll probably give it. Non contact sport

The US have got some nice technical players. Hold and pass the ball well.

England have more of a Joe Royle ‘dogs of war’ style.

I've switched it on by accident twice. First time there was an air shot in the box by an England player, second time was about 5 mins ago and an England player managed to pass the ball 5yds to an IS player when she was seemingly in control of it and under little pressure. It may be better than it used to be but it's of far lesser quality than Conference level football.

It was definitely a pen btw.

The technical ability of the USA is miles ahead of everyone else in the tournament. the overall quality is pretty bollocks tbh, but it's a lot less bollocks than it was only a few years ago. It's a game on the up and is going to improve again just as quickly.

Looking at it now at FT.

Yeah thatís right on the pen. The contact meant she couldnít strike the ball.

In terms of the game, I agree it is improving.

Due to the slightly different physical capabilities it means that games get a lot more stretched than we are used which actually makes for pretty exciting ends to matches.

If we are comparing it to menís football there clearly there remains a gulf. But the entertainment levels are quite high. If other teams can meet the US in terms of quality then the game will definitely improve.

That game was better in terms of enjoyment than most semi finals in the menís World Cup.

Itís interesting, as my sons have no concept of why women (girls) didnít used to play football. They play in mixed groups and it is what they are growing up used to.

My son expects me to know as much about the players in this as I do players in the menís game!!!

The France team should probably have beaten the USA once they got their house in order in the second half in the quarter finals. The USA edged it due to their experience and their know how.

It's been a good quality tournament beyond the group stages. I've been impressed by some of the football of the top teams. In a few year's time, with more money into the game, it'll be even higher.

Sounds like men's England squad when you put it like that.

It’s a totally different game to conference football.

I’d say more technical in places and way less robust. Conference football will be faster paced but not necessarily any easier on the eye. But in watching the woman’s WC it it’s the mistakes and fatigue that add to the enjoyment. I’ve watched bits of a few games and that’s the first game I’ve watched from start to finish.

It seems like this tournament has been a watershed moment for the sport so it will be interesting to see how it develops.

Smaller pitches?

I was about 9 stone when I played for a while... I always reasoned players twice the size have to run half as far... lol

I found it so much easier on a smaller pitch, less tiring when you dont have to put your full momentum into every pass over ten yards. It obviously focuses more on skill and agility. Less on long balls and physical challanges.

Dont see why womens football cant be its own thing... There is obviously an audience for it, they should adapt it to suit women.

I watched an old video of us in the early PL era and the quality of play was light years away from what we have today. It's markedly better these days.

To be fair in women's sport they use the term man all the time. It's a bit weird but quicker I guess.

Dunno, I remember our midfield doing that not that long ago.

I'd be surprised if they allowed women to play football

I wonder how long it'll take for FIFA to get it's grubby mitts on it and ruin what seems to be a, for want of a better word, innocent game. The club game in Europe certainly seems to be easy to dominate with the right resources, nothing new there. The IS seen to have built their legacy over decades, fair play to them
