Anfield is also a pleasure to visit now too, so I'd see no reason to be jealous of any other club/stadium.

That could obviously change in a few years, but for now I'm more than happy where we are.

It would take some doing to make it even worse than the rest of the area outside

Mostly I'd agree but I think they've done a great job. That single tier behind the goal is great. The stadium reminds me a bit of the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff - which is often claimed to produce the best atmosphere in the world (I think our fans set the decibel world record there IIRC).

It's also safe standing ready. The bars are already in place.

We'll see what it's like in practice soon enough. If Spurs fans are anything like their Arsenal neighbours, the atmosphere will more than likely be a bit quiet anyway.

I think it's ok, not bad to be fair, but I'm hoping that the best thing about it will be the massive overspend so that Levy keeps an even tighter hand on the purse strings.

Obviously it will start contributing revenue once open, but by the time those revenue streams have reached the required level with a bit of luck the damage to the squad etc will already have been done.

It's probably the best new stadium I've seen imo. I like how close the stands are to the pitch.

Have to agree but over time the other three stands will have to be rebuilt, sentiment is great but we also need to be careful of not getting left behind.

The Stadium is nice but lacks character IMO and that's not just salty, just my opinion.

What i'd be more concerned is our capacity which is obviously tied closely to our revenue stream. While I appreciate it has fallen behind TV/media and commercial revenue it's still over the course of a decade or so a very significant contributor to income.

I'd be more happier if we increased capacity to 60+k although it'd be hard to top the ROI on 100m for 10k extra seats that we got from the main stand.

Back to Spurs, this stadium will eventually turn them into a bigger club simply by increasing gate receipts but they've been clever to weave a lot of commercial streams into the build as well. Their problem in the medium term is they'll also have to increase salaries and perhaps lose a few big players along the way and pay down a massive loan.

The stadium looks great. I wish we'd done similar, without the rolling pitch etc of course.

What would you do to add character to a new stadium?

Not being an architect or from that area i wouldn't be much help. But there's not (from the pictures), a lot of personality about the building.

If you don't need to be an architect or familiar with an area in order to conclude a building lacks personality, then it kinda stands to reason that you don't need to be an architect or familiar with an area in order to form an opinion on what does give buildings some personality, even if generally?

I think it looks great inside (the important bit), but bland like an office block from outside. Not much different to Wembley or the Emirates in that sense. What would I do differently? Use more colour, less glass, more interesting and tactile materials, and make it less round and blob shaped, and more abstract. Give it a look that makes it unmistakably the new White Hart Lane. Most old stadia are instantly recognisable from the outside, but most new stadia just aren't.

Yeah, semantics.

Character is in the detail. The choice of tilework, carpentry, materials, cornicing, etc. all of which ideally need to be sympathetic of the area, the era of the building etc.

I've done loads of research into period victorian houses because i live in one, but i haven't done an iota of research into what makes a characterful stadium in a shithole in london so all i'm saying i wouldn't be the one to ask what would 'give' it character. All i can say is, IMO, it appears to lacks it... not that Levy will give one flying fuck of course as long as it's a functional, comfortable cash cow.

I do like the sloping stand at the back, other than that, it's a very expensive off the peg stadium bowl to me. Meh.

It is a beautiful stadium designed to create a great atmosphere and a massive upgrade for them. Am jealous tbh, as much as I love Anfield I wish we had a new stadium

The history of Anfield massively works in our favour, especially on European nights. I can't think of many domestic teams that have moved and retained the same character and atmosphere.

I'm not sure how much more characterful you can make a modern structure that's built for safety and accommodation as the top priorities.

The character should come from the culture of the club and fans as we do when we visit any ground around the country.

West Ham have suffered hugely from moving to a new stadium. Its sucked the atmosphere from the club. So both have to work together.

But if you look at something like the Wanda Metropolitano. Thats an example of being both a good stadium and set of fans to make the brilliant atmosphere.

So yeah, I think stadiums absolutely can be designed to be characterful, whislt being a lot safer for people.

The Millennium Stadium is acoustically poor, not sure if characterful looks can do anything about that.

It held the world record for loudest crowd when we played there in 2005.

And it's not an equivalent situation as its comparing the same stadium, not a team mocoving and keeping their atmosphere.

Re-built!

The original stadium was built in the 30's (I think) with various upgrades.

Then they rebuilt it in the year end...
