Paul Gascoigne 'needs immediate help' says his agent

Paul Gascoigne's agent has told the BBC the former England footballer's life is in danger after he started drinking again.

The 45 year old broke down on stage at a charity event on Thursday.

Gascoigne has openly admitted to having problems with alcoholism, has spent time in rehab and was sectioned in 2008 under the Mental Health Act.

His agent Terry Baker told BBC Radio 5 live: "He won't thank me for saying but he needs to immediately get help."

Baker added: "Whatever's happened to him in the five or six weeks since I saw him before Christmas he is not as well as he has been.

"He's been absolutely fine, he really has, and now he isn't. But I think he knows that.

"His life is always in danger because he is an alcoholic. Maybe no one can save him - I don't know. I really don't know."

Sad.

Just listened to the radio interview with his agent.
Sounds like the S*n are up to their old tricks as well.
Mis-representation in what ever article they wrote

The tabloids should leave him alone.

Hope he gets better as I would wish with anyone but really I have no sympathy for him, all self inflicted.

They won't though. This sort of stuff sells papers unfortunately.

Totally moronic view and also plain wrong. Mental illness and alcoholism is never "self-inflicted", regardless of status.

He has been having counselling since he was 7 - and you, atop the high horse, think it's "self-inflicted". Ludicrous.

Yeah fuck him aye...

Totally harsh mate, his fame has nothing to do with it. He is an alcoholic who has some serious mental health problems. He deserves help support and respect.

I never said fuck him, I wish him well like all the other ill people out there that need help. I just don't have sympathy for alcoholics and people who who have everything but throw it all away. But that's just me though, you may think different, but hey ho...

So, so wrong. Mental illness is mental illness and alcoholism is alcoholism - bank balance has precisely fuck all to do with either.

Any addiction is complex. There are so many factors outside of an individuals control that have an effect.

Cream, you do realise Alcholism is an illness? It can even be hereditary. Same with mental illness. Hence the name....illness.

So much talent, really feel sorry for the guy. He's a genuinely nice chap who just has. A lot of issues.

No way is it self inflicted. Not a chance. Really hope he can find a way to beat it.

Collymore has been on TalkSport since 7pm talking about Gascoigne (who has apparently flown to America for treatment).

They've played a couple of clips where Ronnie Irani gives his view. Is there a more braindead cunt on the radio than this man? He's a fucking moron.

Moron Irani.

How the fuck do they put a bloke in that state in front of an audiance, look at the poor guy shaking, trying to get the words out, it smacks of making money off someones fame, ffs the bloke next to him seems to be feeding him the story.

So sad and so very wrong!

The bloke asking the questions is his so-called agent.

Reminded me of someone using and exploiting a dumb and desperate animal for financial gain.

I don't know his agent, maybe he set out to really help the lad and got caught up in keeping him working, without realising how low and ill Gazza was getting, it just looks very wrong to me, and rather than waiting till now, he should have spoke out as soon as Gazza had his first drink, because as soon as he did that; he had relapsed.

Good to see Chris Evans, that cunt Irani, Lineker and Piers Morgan have paid for him to go to the US and sort himself out. Apparently members of the England squad have also pledged to donate large sums should he need it.

Should count himself extremely fortunate and think of those in similar predicaments but without those kind of contacts.

I think for those of us that have lived with, or had an alcoholic in the family - you can pour as much money into them for rehab etc. But at the end of the day, they are the ones that have to help themselves unfortunately.

It's all well and good that they've paid all this money for him to go get help but at the end of the day, he needs to help himself as well.

I fully appreciate that alcoholism and depression are illnesses but he needs to make a conscious decision to stop. It's no good locking him up in rehab for a few weeks/months, he needs to change his lifestyle dramatically. I hope he can do it because he's still got a lot to offer.

I'm all for that, but i'm not comfortable with the publicity it's getting, just do it and keep it quiet imo.

It's not hard to give money when you have a lot though, what the lad needs/needed is good friends around him constantly supporting him.

And I echo those sentiments that he has to have the desire to sort his life out or this is just another waste of time.
