Seems to be a very slow response to permitting or denying the request to have the game postponed.

If we were able to show proof yesterday that we had X number of positive cases along with injuries and as such could not field a team, then surely a confirmation of postponement should have followed quickly to allow fans to change their travel plans etc.

I think the decision makers are shitting their pants about allowing us to postpone... given they shafted Leyton Orient against Tottenham for exactly the same reason and made them forfeit the game.

The fume either way from other club fans will be raging... because it's us, and not Citeh, Utd, Spurs, Chavs or Arse themselves...

The rule was they had to forfeit if they could not play the game before the next round. The game could not be resheduled. The final is mid feb, so plenty of time.

Nope that was not technically for the same reason. Health Officials stepped in with regards to that decision and took it out of the hands of the clubs involved by closing the ground. So it was not a case of a club looking for a postponement in that case.

Plus it is in the rules for the EFL cup that in the event of postponements etc that each potential postponement will be on a case by case basis.

I don't understand it. Why are Arsenal desperate to get thrashed by our youngsters. Lads, you're still Arsenal.

Desperation. They know they are in heaps of trouble if they have to play senior players. Hope we knock them out playing the kids, would be beautiful to see the rivers of tears.

Probably have to do the application by snail mail

I think the situation here is slightly different to the Spurs-Leyton Orient situation. The rules say that the game is forfeit if you can't find a suitable time to play it before the scheduled date of the next round. In the case of Leyton Orient the next round was a week later, in this case the final isn't until the end of February, so we have 7/8 weeks to find an alternative date. I have no doubt if we are allowed to postpone there will be other fans outraged at us getting preferential treatment but those are the rules. The thing that screwed Leyton Orient over was the fact that the rounds were so close together at that stage.

Ah, 2nd leg now becomes the 1st leg. Meaning only 1 fixture needs rearranged. Fair enough.

I think it is reasonable enough. Plenty of fans will have made travel and accommodation plans already for the second leg. The first leg fans may lose out but no point in screwing over second leg fans too

It seems the most sensible outcome, assuming of course the Covid situation is resolved by next week

That's 8 days away...if they are testing positive yesterday/today then there's no real chance of them being back by then?

Potentially that the earlier cases would be enough to tip the balance back to go ahead. Also, whats the 6 and 7 day of self isolation test rule. Could they then proceed to play with negative tests?

From an Arsenal forum:

They've 41 players in their first team squad registered with the league this season -

https://www.premierleague.com/clubs/10/Liverpool/squad

plus they'd have a B list registered comprising of 40 odd players from the youth teams that can also be called up if required.

And we're expected to believe that out of a squad of 80 odd players they can't field a team? Absolute fucking bullshit, a joke and a disgrace, but who's surprised?

I've been banging the drum about how crooked the game is for years but what's going on this season with cancellations even has me shocked, blatant cheating, corruption and manipulation of results to suit certain teams.

They so desperately want us to either fold and get booted out, and let them get into the final or put out a team of kids.

They don't want to play us at anything close to full strength.

It is desperate stuff from them.

People seem to forget that players don't drive themselves there, and that a multitude of staff are involved on match day. The increased capacity to catch or spread COVID means it's prudent to close it down until only a few have it.

They didn't believe that Karius had caught it. Which, to be fair....

I wonder whether Mo, Naby and Sadio are busy exporting it now. Safd for the Afcon if that's the case.

Since you can only register 25 first team players and some youth players clearly this is wrong. That said to a certain extent I agree with the principle of 'what are squads for...' But in the interests of fairness the judgement has to be made on the basis of a 25 man squad. I don't like the principle that the league has been applying that anyone who has played a minute of league football counts as a senior player, this somewhat discourages teams from giving kids a run out. - giving a young kid a run out effectively says that you would be happy for that kid to play 90mins in potentially a big league game if there are alot of Covid cases, now I know that would probably have to happen in an injury crisis in non-Covid times, but they have set precedents with the postponements which I wonder if will continue after Covid. Another interesting side effect of this is what will teams do in this transfer window? Normally you look to strengthen the squad, but I wonder if sides will look to thin their squads a bit, IMO it could be beneficial to move on some of the youngsters who have had a brief first team run out and go with one fewer player making it easier for games to be postponed than rely on a youngster the PL have deemed a first teamer but you don't think is ready to be relied on...

I assume that we will probably need to see where we are on Friday or something, maybe some of the guys who were out at the weekend will be back and the game can go ahead? If they are still positive or case numbers are still increasing then we will probably request that to be postponed as well.

Echo are reporting that all FA Cup ties have to go ahead if clubs have enough players on their books regardless of experience, so from our side it presumably can't be called off as we have a large youth squad if necessary, , I guess Shrewsbury have a smaller squad so are more susceptible but you would imagine any postponement would come from their side...

How funny would it be, if we got a free pass to the next round, cos they didnít have enough players. Bluemoon would explode!
