£1m loan fee haha.
And a potential price of less than one Brewster / Solanke.

Not a bad piece of business. If it doesn't work out we let him go in the summer and all we'd lose is a couple of million quid, same with Davies and we can still upgrade on them if needed.
We're leading the way in scouting, analysis and transfer deals by a distance.

Liverpool close in on loan deal for Schalke defender Ozan Kabak
Klopp’s £1.6m deadline deal for Preston’s Davies
by Paul Joyce
Liverpool are closing in on the loan signing of Schalke centre back Ozan Kabak to further bolster their defensive options for the rest of the season.
There is no obligation to buy Kabak, 20, but Liverpool do have an £18 million option for a permanent deal which means Jürgen Klopp has the chance to work with the Turkey international before deciding in June whether to keep him at Anfield.
The transfer remains dependent on Schalke signing Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi as a replacement, which looks likely, and it came as Ben Davies underwent a medical to finalise his surprise £1.6 million move from Preston North End.
Klopp has received recommendations on Kabak from the former Schalke manager David Wagner, who worked with the player for 12 months, and also Christian Heidel, the ex-Schalke sporting director. Heidel is now back at Mainz where he worked when Klopp was manager.
Liverpool will pay a £1 million loan fee to the Bundesliga’s bottom club, with a further payment of £500,000 dependent on appearances and Champions League qualification.
It is understood that Liverpool would have walked away from the deal if they had been obliged to buy.
This arrangement means the onus is on Kabak, who was suspended for five matches earlier in the season after spitting at an opponent, Werder Bremen’s Ludwig Augustinsson, to seize the opportunity to prove the glowing references from two of Klopp’s closest friends in football are correct.
Kabak underwent a medical in Germany this morning to save time as discussions on his future were continuing between the two clubs.
Transfers for Davies and Kabak would bring to an end a fraught 72 hours in which Liverpool have sought reinforcements after injuries to Joel Matip and Fabinho compounded the long-term absences of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
The Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards had made numerous enquiries on players, including Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car.
Reports in France indicate that Liverpool had a bid of around £20 million rejected by Marseilles for the Croatian centre-back as they had no time to secure a replacement.
Davies had been close to signing a pre-contract with Celtic but interest from Liverpool has wrecked the Scottish club’s hopes of securing the player on a free transfer in the summer. The move also secures a windfall for Preston, with Liverpool’s Dutch centre back Sepp van den Berg, 19, joining the Sky Bet Championship club on loan as part of the deal.
The left-footed Davies has progressed through the ranks at Preston, where he made his senior debut in 2013. Preston have negotiated 20 per cent of any fee Liverpool get if they go on to sell him to another club.

It's going to be hard for these lads to hit the ground running but fair play to Edwards, that's cracking low-risk business if he manages to seal the deal.

I know highlights can make most players look good but in those reels he does seem to be a big tough unit, with bags of pace and a great pass on him. Not bad in the air either.
All in all, consider me whelmed.

His aerial numbers are off the charts so hopefully he can give us a good presence in both boxes again.

£1m loan deal seems like great business, and given they were wanting £35m in the summer £18m option to buy doesn't sound bad either. Having the option to try before we buy is great because if he doesn't settle of fit in we can send him back and get someone else

Yep. We've acted on our immediate concerns primarily, without comprimising upgrading in the summer when the world could be slightly more different to what it is at the moment.

Clever business by the sound of it - I'm amazed it was possible to get it all over the line at the 11th hour. Or maybe it's been 'happening' for a while and we've done another brilliant job of keeping things under wraps
Is he actually any good by the way?

We don't know we just need to sign someone and we'll be happy, it probably doesn't matter as the CB injury curse will strike before we know it
