Wtf!!! Such random great news. How rarely we get surprised with something like this. And apparently Barca had a bid rejected too
Just get VVD in please!

Thought I'd check any news from overnight to wake up to this. Thought it was a joke for a bit until I saw this thread. Great news and hopefully a few more announcements later.

Cant belive we got someone like him in. Seems like next season everyone would be after him and his value could have gone even more nuts in the current climate.
Also cant remember the last time a player was signed this far out from actually joining the club.
Planning is not what I associate with Liverpool.

Given we will have 4 Africans in our squad, move of ACON to summer is a massive bonus.

ACON is now in the Summer so shouldn't cause us mid-season pain more them coming back knackered and/or injured.

To be honest with you, plays for RBL until 2018 so isn't a Liverpool player yet & assuming that he would be playing against us if we were to come across them!

Compare him to any type of midfielder and he looks great, it's fucking ridiculous. He's got Kante numbers defensively but as you can see while Kante does absolutely nothing else Keita has dribbling numbers like a prime Iniesta or Coutinho and scores like a prime Vidal. And that's him at 21/22 compared to other mid 20s. This guy is genuinely a freak midfielder! We are so, so lucky.
And :
Facing RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita is like playing against two players, according to Schalke director Christian Heidel.
Schalke were 2-0 winners against Leipzig, runners-up last season, on the opening weekend of the new Bundesliga campaign, with Nabil Bentaleb and Yehven Konoplyanka on target at Veltins-Arena.
But Keita, a reported target for Liverpool in recent months, stood out for the visitors as Heidel acknowledged the unique challenge of tackling the 22-year-old.
"Everyone has seen that Leipzig are a top team, especially since they have a 12th player," he said. "Naby Keita plays for two, this boy is incomprehensible.
"I have rarely seen such a thing live. Even if we threw three players at him, he somehow managed to hold onto the ball."

I am not so sure about that medical, holding up the reds number 8 shirt .... I think he may well be technically/legally an LFC player now. If we have put out cash already, then we will have insurances in place and to get insurance, I think you have to be the beneficial owner!

I would ssy the photo of him holding the shirt was photoshopped,i can't see us doing a photo shoot with him holding a shirt out of respect for rbl.

Ahhh, OK, I did wonder but no one suggested it was shopped!
He still had the medical and announcements have been made. It seems to be more like a signing than an 'agreement' for next year!
I wonder how RBL fans feels about the kid turning out for them knowing he has done the deal to leave them. I know we did the same (similar) with Origi and didn't he get lambasted from the Lille fans every time he had a bad game? Interesting to see how he gets on !

did we buy him and loan him back for a season, or is it a precontract?

We've agreed to meet the buyout clause and pay a premium to guarantee the deal on July 1st.

I can only think of one reason why he (or any player) would need a medical and that is because he is 'officially' on the books!

Rafa Hoenigstein mentioned on the The Anfield Wrap that Keita will inevitably have another medical with us when he joins next year.
Last season there was a game were Keita effectively stopped running and wasn't feeling good at all; we wanted reassurances that it wasn't linked to anything, before going ahead and confirming the deal.

Thanks Mike however, we must have paid out something already then, IE: be exposed financially or there would not be a reason for a medical until the one when he joins us!

We have a 'control' medical for reference when doing the final one next year.
