It's been a massively successful start of the Summer for England. Semi Finalists of Champions Trophy (losing to eventual winners) and comprehensively beating SA in T20, 50 Overs and Test Match series. Bring on the Windies.

South Africa are fucking shit though aren't they. No idea what they have coming through but that batting line up is bad.

It's a decent summer - still a lot of questions at the top of the order. I'd just bring back Hales at least he provided entertainment.

Moeen is great.

No Jennings for the WI series. Hardly a surprise and definitely the right thing to do.

Definitely the right call - Stoneman deserves his chance, certainly earned it.

Can't wait until we are talking about who will replace him in a few months.

So how's this day nighter going to go?

The suggestion is that wickets fall when it gets dimpsy but this wasn't the case in the county championship games played in this format a month or so ago.

Bit surprised they haven't brought Woakes back on his home ground but presumably they don't want to drop TRJ after his Oval performance.

They were chatting a bit on 5live this evening.

Typically the pink ball games have seen high scores supporting suggestions it gets a bit rubbish for bowlers after a session. However, with a new ball after 80, overs they were also speculating it could force early decs so teams can have a go at the end of the day rather than risk batting when 7 or 8 down.

Whatever the case... I'm there for Friday and Saturday

'What is going on?'

That wily sage Paul Collingwood didn't mince his words when asked about the pink ball.

"It will do all sorts in the first 10 overs and then it becomes this soft as plastic thing that you can't hit that doesn't deviate off anywhere," he said.

"It's shocking. It feels like plastic when you hit it. Apparently they don't like using [Australian manufactured] Kookaburras in England because of the weather.

"I played in one four-day game against Worcestershire and the opening batsman was laughing.

"The ball wasn't even coming off the bat. It's just totally different. It was like 'what is going on?'"

Sounds, er, promising...

It was a very good ball - but not the ideal start for Stoneman.

About 5 minutes from New Street hoping to see a few hours of run building then a declaration and loads on wickets!

Tactics won't matter in this match, but i'd declare:

I'm going tomorrow, after watching the crowd over the last couple of days I suspect its going to be a fairly hard core day.

Normally you would take it easy in the morning and be on your way by 6:00ish, now you meet your mates for lunch at 12:00 and are still on it at 9:00pm at the ground

Drubbed; their 6th worst defeat ever.

On the basis that this game was only played as a day / nighter to prepare the team for a day / nighter in Australia this winter, I reckon there was a case for batting again (despite the enormous 1st innings lead) to give our guys a bit of practice under lights.

I like Ian Bell, but last time I looked he was averaging something like 26 this season. I'm not sure he's what's needed.

What I don't understand is why the technique of these players is so poor - WTF have they been coached in the course of their careers?

I didn't see this WI coming.

250/3 against England's 258 pits them in a pretty solid position.

329 - 5.

Hmm from dipping in and out we've been pretty ordinary. I still think we can win if we bowl them out for another 50 - 75 but it doesn't bode well for the winter.
