Medvedev was incredible last night - very peak Novak I thought. Incredible seeing Djokovic crying in his seat and continuing to cry while receiving serve.

I enjoyed that (unless it was an actual breakdown). I can't stand the bloke. No sporting integrity.

Yep karma is a bitch for that asshat.
Though have to say I spouted plenty of bile about Piers Morgan after Emma Raducanu's amazing win. He was out with lots of congratulations in that way he does that tries to latch himself onto the coat tails of someone else's big moment, with his he always knew she had it in her, when only months ago he was slagging her off for being mentally weak and unpatriotic for quitting over breathing issues.
CNN got ridiculed in my kitchen as well this morning with their constant "Canadian Born Emma Raducanu" spiel. While it is technically correct to say she is Canadian born, they seem to totally leave out the English/British part now and focus on Canadian/North American. Like Morgan they are twats trying to latch onto a winner.

Andy Murray, straight talking as usual
Quote:
Andy Murray says he would "always be on the end of the phone" to help Emma Raducanu - but only if she asks for it.
The 18-year-old won the US Open title on only her second Grand Slam appearance, catapulting her to 23rd in the world and global fame.
Former world number one and three-time major champion Murray previously said her achievements were "very special".
But he will not "wade in" with advice and opinion, because he did not like it when he was on the receiving end.
"I never really liked it when all of the ex-British tennis players were always wading in after every win and loss about what you should be doing, what you shouldn't be doing, and a lot of them also giving advice when you haven't asked for it as well," he said.
"I found it incredibly irritating - and still do today. I don't want to be that person.
"What Emma has achieved is incredible and I hope she goes on to do more amazing things in the sport, and if she ever wants to talk, or her family, obviously I would always be there on the end of the phone.
"But I don't want to be that guy after every loss or win just wading in and giving my opinion on what she should or shouldn't be doing differently, because it's not helpful."
Raducanu's victory in New York marked the end of Britain's 44-year wait for a female Grand Slam singles title, since Virginia Wade's Wimbledon win in 1977.
Murray's own US Open triumph in 2012 ended a 76-year run without a British winner of a men's major singles title following Fred Perry's Wimbledon and US triumphs in 1936.
But the Scot insists the country cannot afford such lengthy waits again.
"For a country that hosts the biggest tennis tournament in the world, and is certainly not lacking in money, that's not really good enough," he said.
"Now should be an opportunity to try to make sure that it's not another huge wait again. They need to try to take the opportunity."

Ironically he is most likely the ideal resource for Raducanu, he is literally the only other person in the UK who will understand the challenges she faces.

Crashing back down to earth.
Quote:
Britain's Emma Raducanu lost her first match as a Grand Slam champion, beaten in straight sets by Belarus' Aliaksandra Sasnovich at Indian Wells.
World number 22 Raducanu was seeking an 11th successive victory, having won the US Open last month as a qualifier.
But Sasnovich, ranked 100th in the world, beat the 18-year-old 6-2 6-4 in round two of the BNP Paribas Open.

Found it quite odd that she fired her coach after the US Open. Don't think she's replaced him yet, but has the mighty Jeremy Bates with her atm

Yeah definitely. You’d have to imagine her coach was doing something right?

Incredible stuff from Cam Norrie, winning Indian Wells - something even Murray never did. He's up to 16th in the world now.

Nobody has been in more finals other than Novak this year . He is no longer the South African Kiwi and we can all hail him as a true Brit

Another first round exit for Andy last night. Lost to some chump who was only playing as a "lucky loser" cos someone pulled out. I watched it - thrilling game, went to a deciding set tie-breaker, and Murray wasted 7 match points. I've seldom seen him so angry, losing his shit constantly. You can see it's frustrating him beyond belief. I wish he'd just quit.

I know what you mean, Would love him to go out on a high though and just win one more tournament, Becoming an embarasment to Scottish Tennis sadly.

He's definitely got the odd great win left in him but I don't think he's close to fit enough to string enough wins together to win a tournament. It's really tough seeing him struggle and lose against jobbers.

I'm torn, I want both. But I can't see him retiring.
It will always be a 'what might have been with Andy, he got injured as W number 1 and Wimbledon champ - he was on for a year of winning some slams...
He is the sort of guy who might have one more miracle run left in him, but it is very hard to see it, when fundamentally he is playing guys 10 years younger with a metal hip...

Wow, that is an amazing result.
His problem is his fitness isnt it? He just cant go back to back with these performances. Though 6-1, 7-6 means he will be a bit fresher than his typical 3 set marathons, must be one of his best wins in years.

Yep that's definitely his problem imo. He'll keep having these wins and then go and lose to some chump cos he's out of gas.

This is all a bit mad.
Peng Shuai has not been seen since making allegations of sexual assault against Zhang Gaoli, former Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China.
Email sent to head of WTA Steve Simon reported on Chinese State Media 'apparently' from Peng Shuai, but lacks any credibility - a screen grab with the cursor still showing.
He's not buying it.

Aye, it is a situation that stinks, but one that doesn't surprise really...speak out against a high-up person in China and mysteriously disappear....

Maybe true for the average joe, but not typical that they would 'erase' a Grand Slam winner with international profile. And then look to fabricate a response suggesting everything is fine.

I'm not sure if there is back story here - injury?
I guess there are other life elements unique to women that make a top level sporting career more of a challenge such as wanting a family but I agree, I wasnt aware of this at all.
She came very close to the absolute top.
