Thought it turned into a really good contest after the rain buggered off.
Its always a shame that these 3 match series seem to be the most competitive, and they are over before they begin. Even those shitty little 2 match series against NZ or something.

I was hungover as fuck yesterday, so put in a solid day on the sofa.
Blackwoods innings was superb. Came in with WI in trouble on 27/3 saw of the bowlers and built the platform for the win.
Would have got his 100 with about 15 mins more work and application.

Aren’t Broad and Anderson approaching their 40’s now? Need to start blooding replacements sooner or later.

England have announced that paceman Jofra Archer has been dropped from the second Test at Emirates Old Trafford “following a breach of the team’s bio-secure protocols”. Archer has apologised to his teammates and management and will now self-isolate for five days.
“I am extremely sorry for what I have done,” said Archer. “I have put, not only myself, but the whole team and management in danger. I fully accept the consequences of my actions, and I want to sincerely apologise to everyone in the bio-secure bubble.
“It deeply pains me to be missing the Test match, especially with the series poised. I feel like I have let both teams down, and again I am sorry.”
A statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board said: “Archer will now commence five days of isolation and will undergo two Covid-19 tests in this period, which have to test negative before his self-isolation period is lifted. The West Indies team have been made aware and are satisfied with the measures that have been imposed.”
While it is not yet clear what Archer did to contravene the rules, any such breach is sure to have invoked disbelief and fury at the ECB. At one stage there were serious concerns that the entire English summer programme would be wiped out by Covid-19 – with chief executive Tom Harrison outlining that the worst-case estimates for that scenario involved a near £400m loss to the game.
West Indies’ willingness to travel and take part in the series was, therefore, a huge boost and involved much meticulous planning. For an individual to have put the mutual trust at risk will, in the circumstances, be seen as a matter of utmost seriousness.

Is Burns actually taking the piss there? You couldn't be more straight infront if you tried and he reviewed it. Really wonder what goes through players minds sometimes, definitely not what the review system was introduced for.

Didnt realise why Jofra had been 'dropped'.
The potential is that he could have written off all of the summer plans for Cricket.

What's the likely punishment?
Dropped for the remainder of the current series or dropped for this and the Pakistan series?

Just this game I think?
Anyway, Sibley - finally - gets his 100
Stokes on 99
264-for 3 at lunch
If England bat the whole day and get 450, that could easily bat West Indies out of the game.

Bloody hell - they're going for it!
50 runs this morning from six overs
Ben Stokes has cracked 50 from 36 balls

Broad looking imperious, both last night and today. Regardless of what people (myself included) think of him, there's no denying him when he's on song. Pretty dismal few sessions from the West Indies. England could wrap this up in the next session.

They're rotating players (bowlers), due to busy summer schedule played in a compressed time frame.

Next test starts on Friday, so guess they dont want to overload the bowlers too early in the fixture list.

I'm sure they would have outlined the selection well in advance (subject to fitness/form) to ensure workload management. Skysports panel speculating that players were dropped is ridiculous 'How can Broad be rested/rotated, he was dropped, he hasn't bowled a ball in x months' - yes, that's true, but the schedule is available in advance and it's easy to select according to opposition, combinations and conditions, especially when you consider the quick turnaround of matches.

Sibley tending to either go for a quick duck or make a 1000 ball century

Think the commentators have been a bit harsh on Root for being slow on the runout. If there is criticism it's for taking the run in the fist place, it was excellent fielding. Think WI have been okay without being brilliant with the ball and they deserved the runot because they were unfortunate to beat the bat a few times without the edge, could have had both Root and Burns on another day.
The big man has had a pretty decent start with his left arm spin. Wonder if Gabriel is 100% fit after going off with the niggle earlier.
EDIT: No idea why i thought Cornwall was a lefty.

Seriously good session from Pakistan after that middle order collapse. Road his luck but Shan was excellent especially the partnership with Shadab putting the pressure on England like that.
Horrendous innings for Buttler though, dropped catches, missed stumping, that throw. His batting has been pretty shit in test cricket too, wonder how long they'll persist. Surely he's selected for his batting and there are better keepers than him, if he continues not to perform with the bat, it'll only be so long until the selectors may want to cut their losses.

Really good chase from England. Don't think that Woakes will ever bat better than that, him and Buttler road their luck a little but fair play, the conditions weren't easy and Pakistan were cruising when they got together. Who'd have thought that the longest tail of all time would chase that down! Thought Shah was a little unlucky not to pick up a couple of wickets earlier but it's test cricket and that happens. Good signs for the remainder of the series, back to Southampton for the remaining tests.

Huge credit to Maxwell and Carey for chasing the majority of that by themselves. Starc did well to hold his nerves at the end too.

With Kolpak coming to an end in a few months, I wonder what will happen to the non 'overseas pros' - some of the EU passport holders surely also won't be allowed to stay either. This list was put together last year, there have been a few more to join the ranks since then. Unless someone has an ancestral visa or UK passport, it seems they're out.
All of those players are considered 'white', 'coloured' or 'Indian' in South Africa's racist system - when selecting an XI in domestic cricket only 4 can be white with 3 more for other players of colour - 4 'black African' players must play each match. With only 6 teams 42 (24+18) spaces effectively. If we use the list and exclude overseas pros there are almost as many not black African players playing in county cricket as there are in South Africa. I think the ICC should do something about it, because tbh I think it's obscene to be counting players and what their colour is.
It feels like we're going back in time with legislation like this. I love how SA cricket is in disarray domestically and internationally whilst contributing close to 50 players to English cricket. The list doesn't include players like Malan and Jennings who play for England or Roy who was partially raised there.
