    Heeeeeeeeere's the RATINGSSSSS!!!!

Well, not exactly a top class display, but I think we can be thankful that we've come away with a win. Benitez picked the wrong side, but some inspired substitutions saved the day.

Reina (7). Fcuk all to do for most of the game, but one inspired save at the end saved us.

Finnan (6). Did better supporting the attack than he did in defence, where he lost his man on occasion, but overall better than average.

Hyypia (6). Not his best display ever, and badly caught out along with most of the defence for the goal, but largely untroubled apart from the odd moment.

Carragher (6). Looked a bit rusty, but I love him, so 6.

Riise (6). Again, looked a bit wobbly at times, especially in the first half, but attacked well in the second and showed some nice touches.

Alonso (5). By his stellar standards, I thought El Surgeon was ordinary. Some passing was typically sublime, but too often missed his targets and looked horribly one-paced at times.

Sissoko (7). I've been critical, and still wince at some of his frankly loopy decison-making, but his passing looks to have improved tremendously, got through a huge amount of work and even had a shot on target!

    The Weeble (2). ****e.

Tennants (7). MOTM. So great to see a proper winger, taking players on, delivering crosses, trickery, determination. A very promising debut. Well done, Asbo.

Gerrard (6). Hmmmmm. Didn't really work in any position, but still our most dynamic and determined player. Too far forward in support of Bellamy, retarded to play him left. He must play in the middle, or in a roaming role. Support striker? No, he's too constricted. If he's the spare man, don't make him support a striker, let him loose wherever. Otherwise, play him in central midfield. Benitez hasn't got a clue what to do with Stevie G and THAT is a worry.

Bellamy (7). Old no-neck was a constant pest and full-time menace. Plenty of pace, trickery and a goal. Bit disappointed to see him wandering - a la Henry - over to the wings, when he must KNOW there's no one else in the box, but overall, well happy. Great if we got another striker in to play next to him.

    Subs:

Garcia (6). Always makes things happen, Great player

Rodders (4). Not much to get excited about.

Gonzo (7). GOALGOALGOALGOALGOAL. Should have started.

I think your being kind on Riise, I thought he was awful. 4/10 at best IMO.

Hmmm. If memory serves, I'm always being kind to Riise. 4 seems harsh, though

Riise was a 5. Dreadfully out of touch, poor positioning too.
Alonso a 6. He set up Gonzo's goal, was a bit rusty, but still showed touches of class.
Zenden 5, not as bad as you make out, coming out of a serious long term injury too.

Rheina 8 - made an absolutely top class save at the end after having little to do all match.

Garcia 7 looked great, very incisive and dangerous.

Crouch 6 shook them up a bit. Gave them something different to think about, forced a couple of saves.

All the rest I agree with.

cant understand how you thought riise was better than alonso.
2 for zenden pretty harsh too (weeble?)

GERRARD IS A RUBBISH SECOND STRIKER.

I was pleased though, overall. The only players who were catagorically not good enough were Crouch and Zenden. They'll do as squad players, but hopefully Gonzo will play like those few minutes forever (one great whipped cross and one nice goal) and make the LW his own.

Pennant was very pleasing to watch - and Bellers looked good.

We just need Kuyt to lead the line, and not play Gerrard in the link-role and we'll be away.

            Go LFC!

I dunno, if 5 is average, I thought Riise was poor positionally (as you said) and also got beat easily a few times.

He did improve as the match went on though, hopefully it was just because he was "rusty" at the start.

Oh, and the defence will need a few games to get back to their near-infallible form from last season. What do you expect?

Probably because I expect so much from Xabi. Although I'm pro-Riise, too.

He looks like a ****ing Weeble, that's why. And is about as quick as one.

Agree with your comments, other than bit harsh on Weeble, but you've given 6 people 6 and 5 people 7.

I'd say Tennants and Momo were a class apart. 8-8.5

                    Garcia had some class touches/passes/runs - 7

Crouch changed the game in a weird way by scaring the ****e out of the defence - 6

As long as he learns what NOT to do with him, it's ok.

As far as I'm concerned, as a general rule, either Sissoko or Pennant play. Not both. Then Gerrard can do the other job.

As I said on a different thread, who do you drop for Gerrard if you want to play 4-4-2?

                        Alonso may be
                        Sissoko - not a chance
Pennant - not on that form

Yes Crouch completely changed the game, by missing three chances, fouling a player when he had another attempt on goal and managing to find a total of one teammate with a pass during his 30 odd minutes on the pitch, while giving away the ball 10 times.

                          Yes I was counting.

I couldn't agree more with that. I think things may change in this respect if we sign Kuyt so fingers crossed.

                              Where's that cnut Ryan?

I want to remind him how well Tennants played and who scored the winner.
