Agree 100%.

Worryingly I can still name the full 11.

Waldir Peres
Junior
Leandro
Oscar
Julio Cesar
Cerezo
Falcao
Socrates
Zico (the God-like genius)
Eder
....and the donkey Serginho (which was akin to Timmy Mallett appearing on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company).

I've always hated Paolo Rossi for knocking them out.
Goalhanging blert.

What an awesome team that was. :respect:

And I preferred those lighter blue shorts than the current deep blue ones worn by Brasil.

If only they hadn't opted to play a 2-2-6 formation, they'd have pissed that World Cup.

Then again, that's probably what made them so good to watch.

I once heared that, as a young medical student in Ireland, the great Socrates was told by Shelbourne that he wasn't good enough. Has anybody else ever heared that one. It would be amazing if it were true!

No - the story is that he studied at UCD for a while in the 70's before he played for Brazil and turned out for the UCD reserve XI. The reason he didn't make the first XI was down to choice - the reserves played on a Saturday, and the first team played on a Sunday. He preferred playing on Saturdays - ergo the reserves.

Remember when he turned out for Garforth Town a couple of seaons back? I think they had Socrates and Lee Sharpe in the same team. :haha:

Don't think he was too impressed by the Leeds weather.

In person or on television?

In person it'd have to be the Aberdeen team of the early to mid 80. Miller and McLesh as Center backs were an outstanding partnership.

On TV? The Milan team that took apart Barcelona in the 94 European cup final played some very special football that night.

Actually seen as in being there. Barca when they totaly out played us a few years ago. Also Valencia who did the same in a pre season. Think Rofa was in charge of them then, but my memory is shite.

best team in person is the barca that thrashed us at anfield a few years back, agreed, they were fucking spectacular that evening and we clapped them off, couldnt be downhearted as not a team at the time would have lived with them that night. Bastards:crackoff:

Milan team with Gullit that won the Euro Cup 4 - 0. Could have been 8 if they bothered.

It wasn't the same season but in 2003 we drew 2-2 at Anfield and the first half delivered by the Gooners was out of this world.
Bergkamp, Vieira, Pires and Henry just kept the ball rolling all 45 minutes and we were always one step behind...

I wouldn't class Argentina 1986 as a great team. They wer every fortunate they had one of, if not the best, player of all time. Take him out and they would have struggled. Brazil 82 however, wow. They came to Cardiff the year after but nearly all of the side stayed home they only had Eder really. He took a free kick and I was directly behind it. Never seen a ball swerve lik that one did!

Brazil 1982 is a good shout.
Argies 1986 was too reliant on Donna, but still a very good team.

I liked AC Milan when VanBasten played there, and the Ajax teams with Bergkamp etc before they sold everything too, but I reckon the Barca team with Romario and Stoichkov was ace. Such fun to watch.

Marseille with Papin, Deschamps, Boli, Waddle (:haha:), Desailly etc were also a team to remember, aside from their corrupt chairman.

Papin was a fuckin awesome striker, absolutely fuckin awesome. Never got the credit he deserved IMO. :respect:

I saw Papin play in the flesh, in my only ever England game. England-France, obv, Shearer's debut. He started up front with David Hirst and Papin played for them. Same game as Geoff Thomas' hilariously inept "chip".

Ahh yes, the great England team of Graham Taylor. Was that amazing midfielder Carlton Palmer playing? :haha::handshake:

Holland in the 88 Euros...Marco Van Basten scoring the goal from that angle. Koeman and his free kicks. Rickard and his hair....What a team that was.

Didn't Socrates take the peno's by standing next to the ball (no run up) and putting it in either top corner:confused:
