View Full Version : Giggs announces that he will keep playing until he is older than Fergie

Ryan Giggs admits he has his sights set on winning 11 Premier League titles with Manchester United.

The Welsh wizard already holds the individual record for most winner's medals, having picked up his ninth last season.

But even reaching double figures would not satisfy the 33-year-old, who wants his championship successes to tally with his shirt number.

"It would be nice to get to 10, but it would be nicer to get to 11," he told the club's official website.

"I don't want to be greedy, but that is my shirt number, so that is what I am aiming for.

"The medals are not something I think about too much because I want to win more, but it is something that I will be immensely proud of when I finish."

Experience

With competition for places even greater in the United attacking line this season, Giggs concedes he is willing to adapt to any position.

He added: "I have got the experience to play all the positions, so it doesn't really bother me where I play.

"My role has evolved anyway over the years. I have had to change my game because I am not as quick as I used to be.

"As a winger, you cannot rely on your pace as much. You have to use your head a bit more.

"Hopefully, the yards I have lost in pace, I have gained in experience and intelligence of reading the game."

He might get the odd Inter-Toto cup medal but that's about it. It's over for the SCUM, it's our turn now

NFW. Rafa has complete his sqaud signings and from here on in, he will be signing first team players. Manure have no chance of catching us. As Red Chilli says retire now or buy prozac in bulk.

Over? as much as its not popular to give an objective opinion on est i have the humility to at least admit that our rivals have quality and young quality at that.

rooney, ronaldo, tevez, anderson, nani etc and they look sorted in defence aswell, they'll be there or thereabouts in the next few years mate whether we like it or not.

im actually quite impressed with arsenal aswell, they will be a big threat

Don't give a stuff about the Arse but the SCUM are on the decline. Their goalkeeper is shit, Tevez is over rated Rooney is injury prone, Anderson and Nani have done FUCK ALL so far and Ronaldo doesn't have the temperament.
Add to that the fact that Fergusson's grey matter is going to give up sooner or later :handshake:

I still think it's a fucking travesty that they won the league last season with the shite they had in that squad. Ronaldo, Scholes and Giggs carried a terrible CM and average defense.

As for them being 'faaaaar' weaker a year ago, I'm not so sure. For a start, they have some key players getting pretty old and I'm not convinced they've replaced them yet. Scholes, for example, has been shit in the games I've seen this season.

dont think it was a travesty at all, yes they were much weaker than they are now but they had a lot of luck with injuries and they were able to play the same side week in week out. and with the way that team played they fully deserved the league title, no two ways about it.

carrick isnt average, he might not be as good as his partner scholes but then again who is? he's a good player, nothing more nothing less.

average defence? they had the 2nd strongest defence in the league despite losing evra, ferdinand and vidic for some of the run in + gary neville being out for the last 2 months of the season.

they were really spawny with injuries for a lot of the season but still, credit where its due for the way they played, they scored the most goals in the prem aswell despite not having this so called 20 goals a season striker everyone keeps bangin on about

and sorry for being devils advocate but i believe scholes was injured in pre season and he should have missed the first 4 or 5 games anyway, they rushed him back and hes obviously not at peak fitness

I like Ryan Giggs. He has been a great player for years now and is still as humble as when he first broke into the side. The beautiful game would be much better if there were more like him.:handshake:

I think I need to go and lie down in a darkened room !:haha:

thats what everyone is/was saying, but i dont think it works like that. they had a good blend of experience and ronlado and rooney playing well aswell as alot of luck so they put together a great run. i dont think that anyone expected it last year and i dont think they will be as good this year. even though they have bought alot of talent. if they hadnt bought i think they would have failed badly this year. plus they will need time to get it right, added to that scholes and giggs fading by the week, i dont think they will win anything this year. maybe soon but not this year

infact it does not pain me to say that i wish we had Giggs in our side over the past 15yrs or so. He has just been a brilliant, consistent, versitile and intelligent player.

That side will go into decline the moment Scholes calls it a day, he is absolutely everything to them IMO.
At the moment, they dont have a replacement coming through for when that time comes and it would be almost impossible to replace a player of his quality anyway.
Will be a bigger loss to them than Keane and if the side is much the same as it is now then i would expect them not to be the force they undoubtedly currently are.

Agreed.

I think Anderson has been brought in as their heir to Scholes' throne, but they'll be very lucky if he's half the player Scholes has been. Hilariously inept debut for the lad last week, too. :haha

Scholes is quality as well, he is a very hard player to replace, dont know enough about Anderson to say whether or not he will be up to it in 2yrs time or so. For the money they paid for him he better be!

I still think that Carrick will be the more attacking of a partnership with Hargreaves in the future. I think that the signing of Tevez may mean that Fergie feels that this will necessitate a greater amount of creativity in the front two.

I tend to think that Carrick has a lot more potential than people give him credit for. When he was allowed more freedom to break forward at Spurs (and on occasion last years CL for United) he shows he has a decent shot and makes good runs into the box. He will probably be more Lampard than Gerrard/Sholes or Alonso in that position but I think that can be made to work in the context of a team with two good wingers.

A lot of their future success will rely on either Nani or a new recruit becoming a winger capable of replacing Giggs IMO along with whether they can get someone playing the centre forward role effectively.

This season will be grear because no one really knows what to expect from us and the scum. We could possibly win the league and I can see 1st and 2nd being taken up bu us and the Chavs - not sure in which order. I think utd will be a close 3rd, if teams can take saha and Ronaldo out of the game they will struggle. The begining of the season has proved this. Last season everything came good for them at the begining of the season, all the players played well, no major injuries and some wins. The luck stayed with them after this with no injuries and the likes of giggs and scholes having a really good season. I can see Arsenal getting 4th because of their lack of ability to deal with aggresive teams away from home.
This season is by far our best chance though especially when you consider the effect the african cup will have on the chavs.

I'm sorry, thats absurd. Yukpo pretty much said it a few posts ago so I'm not going to repeat it, but I had to register my sheer astonishment as to the poor quality of that post.
