Great deal for Brum...who's new owner would've most likely sacked him and had to pay him off anyway.

Yeah, but that new owner is fooking sneaky id say....something not right about him, and Bruce knows it

Also its amazing how Whelan can fork out 3 million for compensation for Bruce but ask him to spend 3 million on a player and you'd be lucky to even get half that

The BBC say up to £3m - no idea how this is calculated, it may well be that Whelan knows that the real figure will be much less.

Brum should go for Paul Jewell.

I suspect that the new owners will want a foreign coach in an attempt to attract bigger name players.

So do I but I would go for Jewell. I rate the guy as a manager and I would like to see him given a chance at a bigger club (bigger than Brum) because he is potentially a future Liverpool manager.

Whelan's on SSN now and he's confirmed that £3m is exactly right.

Suppose he has extra cash after selling off Wigan RL

In that case it is a lot of money. It's not as if Bruce has built a sustainable youth setup or is reknowned as a class coach who improves players greatly. He is a solid manager who will probably make the team competetive but you have to think there are better managers out there if you are willing to pay that much.

Unless Bruce has such a good relationship with Wenger in terms of loaning players etc. that this is of itself an asset worth having I suppose.

McLeish to B'ham and you heard it here first.

Educated guess or information from somewhere?

i think bruce just needed a bigger challenge, i doubt he could have made more of birmingham than he already has, i think it's a good piece of buisness to both clubs, i think he can improve wigan and keep them afloat in the premier league. wigan can perform much better than they already are and i think bruce will be an imense improvement. if he can keep them in the league he'll be well worth the 3 million...

Bruce had it in his contract regarding the £3m release fee...

But teh question is why would anyone pay that and not go for a different manager?

Sounds like Whelan is hoping that ferguson is right in saying that Bruce and Hughes are two of the best up and coming managers in the game. Funnily enough I agree about one of them, I just think Whelan went for the wrong one... :haha: (as if Hughes would join Wigan anyway!)

I agree with that.

Bruce has always struck me as average at best.

Swapping one relegation battle for another doesn't seem the best of ideas but given the political situation at Birmingham it looks like he jumped before he was pushed.

There was ZERO chance that Bruce would have been at Birmingham beyond next summer. So it's a smart move for him.

£3m quid for a shit manager.

World's gone crazy.

Why not just give it to Paul Jewell to return?

Maybe.

Think he will be looking to get back into club management.

And he's getting paid 2 million quid per year which is even crazier. How much is Rafa on? Is he on less than fat head because if so, that would be a disgrace.

He is not is he?

We're all in the wrong fucking game for sure.

£3m upfront and £2m a year on top of that to get a club relegated.

Good for some.

Absolutely no chance mate. The new owner from Hong Kong will not be hiring someone like Mcleish...he's not high profile enough.

I read yesterday that he signed a 4 yr deal worth 8 million pounds. You've got to wonder about these chairmen at times. Are they really that stupid?

His stock is high because of what Scotland done, but i doubt he'll leave Scotland he probably has a craving for day to day management as the International hype has now gone till September when the WC qualifying starts all over again.......its probably the boredom of the rest of the season now that will kill him as he sees Italy go to the Euros

....but he's still a young manager and a Scot so i think he feels he needs to repay the SFA and Scotland dont need another good manager leaving within the space of a year. :handshake:
