View Full Version : Your Matchday squad from the Big four
Was discussing this at the weekend with my mates after a few dizzyades..
Who would your 16 be? (Cheers Caco.. Typo)
Once we all arrived at our own, we then went onto attempt to make a team from the Italian and Spanish Leagues..
Would love to see a cup tournament once every four years (to fit in between the Euro and World cup) in which one team from each of say 8 Euro nations top leagues is made up and plays..
Surely there would be some money to be had and therefore to act as an incentive to all the greedy club owners , sky etc.. I know Id pay to see it
Reina
Sagna Vidic Agger Evra
Ronaldo Fabregas Flamini Hleb
Rooney Torres
Cech
Terry
Mascher
Gerrard
Drogba
Not necessarily the best players (especially Flamini) but I think the best balanced team you could make from the top fours squads.
Surely 16?

Almost the same as Shaggy's, I think Gerrard would unbalance that team so I'd put Hleb instead and Ferdinand instead of Agger.

The only place I really considered someone else for was Essian for Flamini. But I really like the way Flamini has released Fabregas and the other Arsenal attacking players this year so he got the nod as part of a combined Arsenal CM partnership more than off his own bat.

Babel?!?!
Maybe in a few years, but at this moment in time he’d be nowhere near a top four 16.
I have to say that was my biggest surprise in anyones team. That along with a back three I didn't see coming from anyone. It's interesting to see that people have a spread of opinion though.
Just thought id be different. Since everyone else has gone with the usual 442
Fuck it, with those 3 at the back and the Monster protecting them im happy with that. I feel Babel has come on a lot this month and i think we'll see the best of him between now and end of the season

I've chose a 4-3-3 formation, but one in the Rafa mould where it can become 3 at the back releasing Evra in to the midfield thus becoming a 3-4-3, or when defending pushing Rooney in to the left midfield spot for a 4-4-2.
He'll play where I fucking tell him or not at all :D

So anyway back to one of my original points, could a mini tournament between a top four select team from say 8 Euro Nations get off the ground in between World Cup and Euro Championships?
Would it generate enough interest and monetary incentive to the clubs, leagues and of course TV stations?
I reckon it could and would also be a good way to showcase the sport by televising it globally.

i dont think it would get off the ground to be honest, which teams would people support? where would games be played? if it was a european thing i would find it hard for, say, torres, to play for an "english" dream team against a "spanish" dream team.
Also how would the team be selected? Opta Index stats or fans votes?
its a good idea but i just think theres so many different points that could prove stumbling blocks that it could never realistically happen
Its not a national dream team, tho is it, thats the point the national tournaments are in between.
We have often had a world 11 vs a a [insert player name here] 11 for charity
He'll play where I fucking tell him or not at all :D
To be honest I think that it would be a great call if Gerrard was willing but having seen his attitude at RM even I think it is a non starter. So given your hard core attitude who would you replace him with when he stropped off?

If Stevie had a tizzy over it I'd chuck Gallas in there and have Toure on the bench in his place. Don't think that would be as inevitable as suggested in this scenario though - being played out of position for your club week in week out isn't the same as for a tournament held every 4 years, especially when you might otherwise just be watching from the bench.

Rooney would have to play as he is the most different of the 4 strikers and i'm certain the other 3 would love to play with.
Cech
Sagna Ferdinand Gallas Evra
Ronaldo Essien Gerrard Hleb

Strictly speaking he isn't at one of the big four - so he is ineligible anyway.

He is also distinctly average.
