7am sharp tomorrow morning! C'mon Europe! :D
There's two crackin' lineups tomorrow. Harrington/Montgomerie v Woods/Furyk and Clarke/Westwood v Mickelson/DiMarco. Both should be crackin games.
Was there yesterday and saw Ray Houghton slumming it with the rest of us plebs

That's where it's won but you can't beat getting points on the board early. If Monty and harrington can take the point against Woods and Furyk then the doubt will set in very early for the Yanks as it did when the same pairing beat Woods & Mickleson last time.
Sunday is the best day for it, but I took a half day to watch the foursomes tomorrow afternoon. It'll be a boozy weekend

With the players he has at his disposal we should be as competetive as ever but when you look at the Yanks they're equally as strong, if not stronger!! I think we can win this though just like we have the previous 2 Ryder Cups.
i hope your right mate, i just don't see woosnam as another Sam Torrance.
Believe me I hope i'm force fed my words, nothing could make me happier

To be fair I never thought that Langer would have been as inspirational as Torrance but he helped us to win it last time. All of the captains have different qualities and I'm sure Woosnam has some that some of the others before him didn't and at the end of the day it's not down to the captains it's down to the players.
Faldo is to be our next Ryder cup captain and that concerns me because most of the European team think he's a dick.

I can't believe that Luke Donald is not in one of our first pairings though. He should have played alongside Paul Casey.
hmmn and is it a gimmick to have the two irish guys playing off together and the nine hole thing?
why does he need gimmicks

Well it's a bit of sporting theatre innit.
It's also good to see individuals, who compete against each other constantly, uniting and playing as a team. Also the crowd get to play their part, which in golf is unique; rather than merely applauding players or whooping every now and again for their particular favourite, the crowd roar their approval for their team of choice, adding to the theatre as huge roars regularly go up all over the course.
There's been some incredible drama in Ryder Cups gone by but a non golf fan is never really gonna be able to get into it.
isn't it the third biggest comp in the world?
it makes great viewing for everyone with an interest in golf.
Thoroughly enjoyed the first day's golf - took the day off and watched most of it throughout the day.
Couldn't believe Tiger's first tee shot into the water this morning - he is human after all!
I personally think Woosie will lead by example - he's a true competitor who's won a major and dozens of tournaments in his time, and a 5-3 start on the first day is good, whilst playing all 12 players too!
Can't wait for tomorrow's games to start!

I can understand all that - makes a lot of sense.
The main barrier for me isn't the game itself I think but the fact that I have no interest whatsoever in the players. I mean, I have played the game, I have a pretty good idea just how hard a game it is and I can appreciate the skill involved since the coverage on telly is very good (unlike say rugby union where most of the stuff that happens is not picked up on and so it's just a big fight with a ball involved somewhere).
I used to think it was the old thing about why bother about twelve millionaires from one continent playing against twelve millionaires from another. Then I realized that that argument could apply to football too these days...
Ultimately I suppose I just don't care - maybe that is down to the game for me.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy yourselves.

Played it for the first time with some guys from work and some asshole got stroppy with us because we weren't following the rules, like not raking footprints in a bunker that looked like a coach party had walked through it. The single pairing for tommorrow are as follows.
1115 Colin Montgomerie v David Toms
1127 Sergio Garcia v Stewart Cink
1139 Paul Casey v Jim Furyk
1151 Robert Karlsson v Tiger Woods
1203 Luke Donald v Chad Campbell
1215 Paul McGinley v JJ Henry
1227 Darren Clarke v Zach Johnson
1239 Henrik Stenson v Vaughn Taylor
1251 David Howell v Brett Wetterich
1303 Jose Maria Olazabal v Phil Mickelson
1315 Lee Westwood v Chris DiMarco
1327 Padraig Harrington v Scott Verplank
So what do yo think, Are there enough winnable matches to get the 14.5 points? I think there are but you know that the Yanks will try and take a few early points so that the doubt sets in.
We obviously expected Woods and Furyk out first hence the reason Monty and Garcia are first out for us.

You make that sound so insignificant but I think that those 2 tasks you mentioned are huge. To be able to pick players to play in pairs so that you give your team the best chance of success can't be easy. You also have to pick your players to play in the right order and often have to try and second guess the oppositions captain which can't be easy.
The words of encouragement the players receive from the captains probably helps the players alot and it will be reassuring for them. Being told things like the previous 2 groups hit 4 irons into the green and came up short must be a help as well. All of these things are what a captain does and I'm sure that's only half of it.

They also mentioned on Sky that Darren and his 2 kids are Liverpool fans and were at the West Ham game this season
It's true that he's a red. When we played in the F.A. Cup final against West Ham he arranged his tee off time for early in the morning and hired a helicopter to get him to Cardiff for the match.:D L-E-G-E-N-D!!!
Fantastic win the Europe, and a magnificent atmosphere yesterday afternoon.
Clarke did superbly well and I was very emotional towards the end, like most others I suppose. So pleased for Woosie and the rest of the team, just a shame the Yanks were so poor at times! ;)
Great venue, great support and great golf from the Europeans!
I bet Woosie led one helluva piss-up last night!
I was hoping for a closer contest on sunday.
Bit of a let down.
Surely an event as one-sided as this was an anti-climax?
What I also don't understand why it's the Americans against a whole continent. How can you get patriotic about that?
Only real men can do that. Gonna be one helluva night out there.

this was taken from espn and one of there commentators
"Underdog... we lose. Favourite... we lose. On home soil... we lose. On foreign turf... we lose.
"With hard-ass Hal Sutton as captain... we lose. With caring, ultra-organised Tom Lehman... we lose.
"With Michael Jordan and former presidents Bill Clinton and George HW Bush in attendance... we lose. With Tiger Woods playing five matches... we lose."

it gets better he is some more of his rant
I've gagged on the smoke plumes of those cheesesteak-sized European victory cigars for the last time. I've had it with watching deliriously happy British, Swedish, Spanish, Welsh, Irish, Northern Irish and Scottish golfers need beach towels after their celebratory Moet showers.
Please, no more chants of, "Olé, Olé, Olé." No more, "Got Guinness?" mustaches after Euro captain Ian Woosnam chugs the stout on a clubhouse balcony. And for the love of God, please no more close-ups of a Woosie snotball after he sprays champagne up his nose.
We Americans have suffered enough. I mean, since when did the U.S. team become the Kansas City Royals of golf?
