Kuyt says Benitez not to sign new contract yet

Kuyt said: "Rafa told me he wanted to give me a new contract, but because of his own contract he wanted to sort that out first and then we'll see what's happening.

"I've just been trying to focus on the games and not worry too much.

"Because I'm happy at Liverpool and I enjoy it I want to stay. I don't know if my future is linked to the manager, because that depends on what the club wants.

"If the club want to give me a new contract, I'm more than happy to talk about it."

The Kop boss has repeatedly been scathing about Parry's failure to seal new agreements for a group of players whose contacts expire at the end of next season including Kuyt, Daniel Agger, Alvaro Arbeloa and Emiliano Insua.

This sort of struck me. Benitez wouldnt waste a second to sign Kuyt because we all know he loves him. But telling him NOT to sign until he knows whether he will is a bit of a slap. Is it really possible that Agger getting unsettled and still not signed up is most likely Benitez' fault? Do you think he's purposely saying them to wait incase he gets really frustrated with his own contract, leaves the club and is able to buy these players cheaper since their contract is about to end? Thats how its looking to me. Not offering a new contract is generally the BEST way to unsettle a player. Which generally means the team becomes unsettled.

Considering the way we've imploded over the last few months its evident that the team is stressing over alot of things and cant focus. Obvious owners doing their magic, Parry doing his magic, Benitez doing his magic. Too many rabbits, not enough hats. Its gotten too clustered.

To be perfectly honest, and I expect a backlash as you cannot say anything negative EVER, I'm hoping Benitez doesnt feel like staying and heads off. I think his influence is becoming a little negative and I've not been happy at all with his transfers lately. Wanting to sell Alonso is still a massive sore point with me. And I'm not happy with the way the team has been playing for years. I still miss Garcia.

Agree with the conclusion of this post.

Rafa is not Kuyt's agent, he should not be getting involved in player's contract negotiations.

    Very worrying story IMO

did not see this thread and posted one in the off field room. This is a worrying development if you ask me why would he say that if he has no intension of leaving in the summer as it could look like he is cherry picking our players for when he moves on. Well done Dirk for exposing this though.

Yep,, Every day its somthing new, Im geting rightly ****ed off with rafa right now, and the owners, Both of them are puting their OWN interests ahead of the club,
**** kuyt he can have him, Torres has another four years with us. I think that even the players who love rafa are starting to wonder what the **** he is at, We will be ok.

But yet suggest to them that they shouldn't sign till he does?! Either this is completely bull**** (and Kuyt should sue) or this is turning in to a complete and utter ****up. I'm utterly ****ed off with this circus, Rafa should just get on with his job and let this all get sorted out in the background, he has distabalised our season without a shadow of doubt.

Its quoted in The Times as well "The manager told me he wants to give me a new contract but because of his own contract he wanted to sort that out first and see what's happening"

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

FFS he is playing for Liverpool FC not Rafael Benitez and if some players dont realize that then we are better off without.

I don't think he would be playing for LFC if Rafa wasn't in charge so he may have a point.

He should bloody hope Rafa signs a contract as any other manager would have him out on his arse!

If a player was as disruptive as Rafa (constantly leaking stories to the press), I wouldn’t want him at our club.

IF true this is very distrubing and I have no idea how true these stories are, we all know what the press are like for twisting things or taking things out of context.

Some of the stories like this one make me uncomfortable about the thought of giving Rafa more and more control.

Looking at the quotes it looks like he's not even been offered a contract yet so how journalists can make up headlines like that is beyond me.
We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

It looks to me as though Rafa is using Kuyt's contract to strengthen his own position. It's ****ing bang out of order.

Same with most of our squad.
