Toure, Lescott and Terry to City for £100m?

Kolo Toure is first in triple City bid

MANCHESTER CITY have agreed personal terms with Arsenal defender Kolo Toure as the Premier League’s most affluent football club continue their assault on the English transfer market. City expect to sign Toure, Joleon Lescott and John Terry by the end of August for combined fees of around £100m.

Occasional Arsenal captain Toure has been seduced by City’s standard double-your-money offer and following a season in which he was not consistently Arsene Wenger’s first choice should be sold for around £15m. The Arab-financed club have offered Everton £20m plus England under-21 international Nedum Onuoha for Lescott, who has been attracted by the prospect of starting in his preferred central defensive position.

The assault on Terry, however, has proved the most complicated with Chelsea, acting on orders from owner Roman Abramovich, repeatedly stating he is not for sale at any price.

Indeed, Carlo Ancelotti, the Chelsea coach, made the strongest statement yet on Terry when he promised his captain would remain at Chelsea and ignore the City overtures. “For sure Terry will stay in Chelsea, we have never had a problem,” Ancelotti said. “We have to wait. You have to have trust in me.”

City continue to receive strong encouragement that Terry wants the £250,000 weekly wage on offer in Manchester and are preparing to push the transfer fee beyond £40m to secure him. They are also boosted by Terry’s sustained public silence on the matter, conscious that the player’s future will remain unresolved at least until he has stated his intention to continue his career at Stamford Bridge or to move north to Eastlands.

It is understood the 28-year-old has been disappointed with the club’s failure to make top-tier reinforcements and that Abramovich did not consult him over Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment as manager. He has also complained of Chelsea’s lassitude in contacting him after City’s initial summer offer, and over having to wait a week for a meeting with Abramovich after the second.

Though Terry appears to face a difficult decision over his future, Hughes and his coaching staff remain confident he will manage to extricate himself from Chelsea — even if he is forced into requesting a transfer.

Fookin hell. Imagine if that lot had purchased LFC... a couple of signings in the Villa or Aguero ilk - that's all we need - and we'd storm the League. Could've put the rest of the money into our new stadium. Depressing

Must be ****ing exciting times if you're a City fan.

I'd like to think we, as a club, are slightly different though and I'm happy that when we again become the superforce that we once were, it will have been well earned and built on good foundations, rather than bought on a whim as a rich mans toy.
    Hello mert.

They'll be stupid if they sign all three, and give away Onouha, who has a lot of potential. Better sign two and keep him.

If the get hold of these 3 then I think they'll definitely break into the top 4.

However, Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho has stirred the pot further by backing City to win the Premier League this season. "Adebayor up front with Carlos Tevez - unbelievable... City are Champions for sure," said Mourinho.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

Yeah, exciting times for them with all these signings but if I was City fan I wouldn't be happy with the amount of money these players are getting paid. It would be just stupid to pay John Terry the reported £250,000 a week he's a center half ffs.

Wouldn't want to have that spending power in hindsight. We are doing well with what we've got and Rafa is fantastic at building up a squad.

This kind of stuff completely distorts the sport; Man. City are like Real Madrid. No class.

And yeah, Ferguson is right to say they're a small club with a small mentality.

The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

                      What?

Why should players be consulted over who manages them?

Do we get to choose our boss at work? Of course not.
                      Oh I don't know.

Chelsea captain John Terry has finally ended his silence over speculation regarding a move to Manchester City and said he is staying at Stamford Bridge.

City have long been linked with the 28-year-old, amid reports that they were considering a bid of up to £40m.

And while Chelsea always insisted they would not sell, the England skipper's silence only increased the speculation.

But he has now said: "I am totally committed to Chelsea, always have been. Me leaving was never a possibility."
The defender was wanted by City manager Mark Hughes as a key part of the Manchester club's recent revolution that has seen them spend £80m this summer on the likes of Roque Santa Cruz and Gareth Barry.

But Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti said in his first press conference that he would not consider selling the defender, and Terry has now moved to end the speculation "once and for all".

"When you are linked with any club, or with a manager who I have huge respect for, it will always make headlines," he added on the club website. "But Chelsea have made it clear to me consistently that there was never any intention to accept any kind of offer.

"I know there has been comment that I should have made a statement earlier.

"However, throughout this period there have been numerous discussions between myself, the owner and the Chelsea board and we all agreed that the timing of any statement would suit everyone involved in those talks, not any outside influences or agendas.

"What is clear to me following those discussions is that Chelsea's ambition remains as high as ever. This has been further proved by the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti. I am certain he will take this club to the next level.

"Another important factor was knowing that Chelsea would be securing key current players for the long term. The strengthening of the squad around this core is crucial to pushing us onto greater success.

"I am as committed as ever to helping drive Chelsea forward and I will be proud to lead the team for as long as I can."
                        Yeah right.
                        Oh I don't know.

Why would they give a **** what the players are earning?

Because they are blatantly over paid compered to other Prem sides. Would you want to see Gerrard or Torres earning that amount of money at Liverpool? I wouldn't.

Toure is way way past his best. He's been pretty poor for last 2 seasons so they are wasting their money. Another **** signing by Hughes
