His influence was minimal at best.

The simple fact of the matter is that England need to take 20 wickets per Test to win. A defensive bowler like Giles won't help England do that in Australian conditions. Panesar IMO would.

I have just got to watch the dvd of the 2005 Ashes and I was impressed with Ashley Giles' all-round game. We quite possibly would not have the Ashes now were it not for the 50 he scored on the last day. If he'd got out early and they'd got through Hoggard and Harmison in the next 10 overs Australia would have won.
a first choice team might be:
Trescothick, Strauss, Cook, Bell, Pietersen, Flintoff, Read, Hoggard, Anderson, Harmison, Panesar .. but that leaves an awfully long tail which will get mopped up. I'd be tempted to play both spinners, leaving out Anderson ... or play Collingwood as the fifth bowler.

I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

Monty will get his fair share of games, I'm not sure he'll play at the Gabba though.
The key for me is how many tests Vaughan plays and what the score is when he comes back.

Are you having a laugh? TRying to block out the memories are you? He was a key player in the 2 Tests we won and the other 1 we dominated.

I think it will be closer than people expect, after all the Aussies still have Ponting to **** up all the major decisions.

I dont think Giles will be attacking enough in Australia, Monty has to play.

                      Hope you're well, Dan.

I see the favourite result is for Australia to win 4-0 @ 6/1
Next Best Australia to win 5-0 @ 13/2
