AFC Liverpool Grassroots - Website & news

Mods, feel free to make this a sticky.

AFC Liverpool Grassroots (as discussed in another thread) now has a website online at www.afcliverpool.org.uk

It outlines the ethos of the concept, answers some questions people may have, and allows people to register their interest by signing up to the mailing list.

Please visit and, if you wish to be part of it, register online at the site.

I'm bumping this until it becomes a sticky.

Can people please also spread this around other sites and forums that you may belong to?

Please emphase strongly the idea that this is about once more getting the best of both worlds, rather than something which is anti LFC (the site makes that clear but its worth emphasising it as many times as you can really)

the address again for reposting elsewhere is www.afcliverpool.org.uk

it's not. it's remaining an LFC fan, still going to the games if you can afford it, but also having something that the top flight simply won't ever provide again (americans or no americans).

have a full read of the statement on the website and you'll see it is not intended as a replacement for LFC, and in fact is not particularly inspired by the current ownership.

if anything, it was the recent announcement of the Premier League's plans that was the catalyst, not G&H.

I posted this elsewhere so I may as well repeat it here.

Its not really about the owners though mate. Its the way football is in general. Too many people are priced out/fed up with how football is now. Thats got **** all to do with who is in charge of LFC. Moving our very own league games to the back end of no-where simply to generate cash for owners/players agents/TV companies etc is not why we are football fans. We all made the game and now they are taking it from us. That is why this interests me. It isnt going to take away my love for LFC.

Sorry... I too hate the idea. It smells of following what the Mancs did.

I understand that it is not meant to be portrayed as a brake away from the current LFC, how ever IMO that's the impression I get.... Where better then the Mancs I do not wish to follow in there footsteps....

If I have given the wrong impression to others then I appoligies, this is just MY OPPINION.
On awaiting Everton's arrival for a derby game at Anfield, Bill Shankly gave a box of toilet rolls to the doorman and said: "Give them these when they arrive – they'll need them!"

Then you have the wrong impression. It is not a breakaway. It is an addition.

Although I think the people at FC United have done the game a service. And in fact, they followed AFC Wimbledon.

I think the website makes it clear that this is an addition rather than a breakaway. In fact, the thing that binds the supporters of AFC Liverpool Grassroots together will be a shared love of LFC.

It's not about the owners, it's about having something genuinely of our own football wise, and it's about expressing our partisanship for LFC in a way that will give us things that the Premier League has no intention of ever offering again.

As it says on the site - the aim is not a breakaway - the aim is explicity (and I quote) "the best of both worlds."

I appreciate that it simply won't interest some people in the slightest but please at least take the statement at face value and in good faith.

I think the emphasis is on it being something that compliments support for LFC rather than replaces it is crucial. With that in place, it's a excellent idea.

has anyone had any probs with sigining up (ie not got a return email or similar).

if so try again as i've changed the mailing list provider to the same one I use with my band, and its very reliable so all should work perfectly now.

Ok, I'll ask again, and maybe it won't be removed this time:

Why not go and watch the ressies? It's cheap, LFC related, won't be going overseas, higher crowds will help the youngsters gain experience, and the football is often second rate. Sounds like the perfect remedy for you guys.

as rafa has constantly said, the reserve league is a joke. if we were in my dad's day, we'd all be going to see the ressies cos the central league was great.

besides, doesnt it take place in wrexham?

i appreciate you don't like the idea.
