Aldo Signs Up For AFC Liverpool
    Published on July 2, 2008

Liverpool hero and boyhood Kopite John Aldridge is the latest Red legend to sign up as a patron of AFC Liverpool.

The former league champion and FA Cup Winner contacted AFC Liverpool to give his support to the club, and agreed to become an official AFC Liverpool patron.

Aldo said: “As someone who started my own career at South Liverpool I know the importance of grassroots football.

“I love the idea that Liverpool supporters now have our own non league team.

“I am proud to be a patron and supporter of AFC Liverpool and hope that many other Reds join me in giving AFC Liverpool your support.”

AFC Liverpool founder and Chair Alun Parry said: “John Aldridge is one of the most popular ex players among Liverpool fans, and to have his support is incredible.

“It was amazing for my phone to ring and for it to be Aldo at the other end of the line wanting to be a patron of the club.”

Aldridge doesn’t have long to wait to see his new club play. AFC Liverpool’s first ever match kicks off on Wednesday 16th July (7.45pm) when they face St Helens Town at Ashton Town’s Edge Green Street Stadium.

The match is all ticket, with match tickets and coach tickets available from the News From Nowhere Bookstore in Bold Street, Liverpool. Ticket prices are adults £5, children £3, and coach tickets are £5 each.

            No mate.

The first game is only all ticket because of the capacity of the ground. St Helens town normally play at Knowsley Road but work is being done on the pitch. It wouldve been quiet cool to play in a 17k seater stadium for our first game but Ashton's ground was the only 'local' one available on that night for St Helens.

Big interview (too big to paste. lol) on .tv with the AFC manager

I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                Mine angry and defrauded young?

AFC SWOOP FOR NINE NEW PLAYERS

                  Jimmy Rice 08 July 2008

AFC Liverpool manager Derek Goulding has signed nine players in what's sure to be the biggest piece of wheeling and dealing of the summer.

Goulding's captures include two former Liverpool Reserves: goalkeeper Paul Willis and speedy winger Ryan Wignall.

Also joining the books ahead of AFC's first ever fixture next week is the grandson of bootroom legend Ronnie Moran, former Wigan Athletic pro Ian Johnson.

Goulding said: "I am happy that we have signed such a large collection of quality players to the club. I expect to be adding to these signings later in the week. I am still working with lads from the initial trials and so I'm hoping to sign some of those before the week is out too."

The rest of the signings are: Andy Barlow; Martin Crowder; James Dever; Dave Eaton; Terry McCormick; Paul Lamb.

Tickets are still available for AFC's debut fixture against St Helens Town on Wednesday, July 16.

You can buy tickets from Nowhere Bookstore, Bold Street, Liverrpool (£5 adults, £3 children). For full details visit www.afcliverpool.org.uk.
