    Spurs Sign Taarabt

Tottenham have signed French midfielder Adel Taarabt on loan from Lens, subject to international clearance.
The 17-year-old has represented France through the age groups and can play as an attacking midfielder, a second striker or on either flank.

Spurs Sporting Director Damien Comolli said: "Adel is recognised as one of the best talents in Europe for his age."

Tottenham have been tracking Taarabt through the season and beat off competition from Chelsea and Arsenal.

"He will be a healthy addition to the squad and is a continuation of our policy of attracting the best young talent as we constantly seek to improve the quality of the team both now and for the future," added Comolli.

"We're especially pleased that we beat several leading Premiership clubs to his signature."

It is a long-term loan deal, but Spurs are not disclosing details of the move or whether it will become permanent.

What is it with Spurs? They don't seem to have any direction - they just seem to buy and sell willy-nilly. No suprises that they've been the first big club to act in January.

They seem to do alright in terms of getting money back on failed purchases though. I will never understand why they have bought so many central midfielders and only Lennon for the wings in recent years (I know they bought Routledge but they never played him).

Spurs are a great example of the saying "quantity over quality"

I think its a good move for Spurs really.

Ok, I've never seen him play or even heard of him actually but its a loan deal. They can bring the player in for a few months, have a look at him properly in their environment and then make a decision.

Perhaps if other clubs did this, maybe silly money would not be spent on players with potential that may never make it at the highest level. When you consider some of the money we have foolishly spent on youth, loan signings are not such a bad idea.
