He is an exceptional keeper but is relatively poor on crosses. He deserves to be in europe regularly and for longer but ultimately I think his relative lack of height counts against him in terms of going to one of the top 4 clubs in the PL.

Fair play. He looks much shorter (at least to me) and I always put his occasional problems on crosses down to that. I seem to remember that when that Chelsea game plan was leaked for the Newcastle game a year or so ago that this was one of the weaknesses Mourinho had identified in the Newcastle team.

Van Der Saar went back to a top club late in his career, so I guess it is still possible. I just don't think that he is rated in quite that top bracket.
