    Matteo Joins Diao At Stoke

    Former Liverpool defender Dominic Matteo has joined Championship side Stoke City from Blackburn Rovers until the end of the season.

    Matteo, who made 155 appearances and scored two goals for the club, played in the Reds first team for seven years before Gerard Houllier sold him to Leeds United in 2000.

    The Scotland international then moved to Blackburn Rovers but was out of favour at Ewood Park before Stoke pounced.

    Matteo was a decent player and a good ball playing centre back.

            I quite liked Matteo, especially when Roy Evans made him play that sweeper role in that 3-5-2 formation. I remember well that day we thumped Chelsea 5-1 at Anfield when he scored a brilliant goal as he was sweeping forward. We played magnificent football at the time.

                        And Diao wasn't even on the bench!

                        Suspended for 87 yellow cards or dropped. BOUND to be one of the two.

                        Matteo played though, in midfield I think. To be honest I can't believe his career has come and very nearly gone...all in the blink of an eye.

                          Stoke extend loan deal for Diao

                          Liverpool have regularly sent Diao out on loan

                          Stoke have revealed they have extended their loan of Liverpool's Senegal international midfielder Salif Diao until the end of the season.

                          "There's plenty of excitement around the place. He's coming until the end of the season and it's a smashing deal for the club," said Stoke boss Tony Pulis.

                          "He will improve what we've got and that's what we're looking to do.

                          "There are one or two other areas that we want to strengthen because the pressure to get points mounts now.

                          ==========================

                          Are we talking about the same Diao here or what?
