Thanjk you.

its obviously about the money, ive never respected lucas neill, hes a dirty mouthy gob****e
hes lucky he had the chance to join, now he can **** off to the championship
and what does curbishley think all these deals will do? magically transform west ham into a decent side? i really hope they go down, ive had a soft spot for them in the past but now with the current regime and playing staff....couldnt happen to a nicer bunch
Don't agree with your example, relative to the cost of living jumping from £30k a year to £60k a year is HUGE, plus most jobs aren't that emotive, so it's an easy decision.
However Neil would have been paid a very handsome wage of over £1.5m a year if he'd picked LFC, which to the ordinary person is a huge sum, therefore £3m a year isn't as big a jump in relation to the cost of living, he can afford to live VERY comfortably on £1.5m/yr. Plus football is emotive, how many on here would pass up the opportunity to join 'your' club for the 'paltry' sum of £1.5m/yr?
To us it's emotive. To people within the game it's work. Of course some are guided by their emotions/loyalties more than others but it's probably a mistake to think footballers think of football in the same way we do.
I also don't begrudge West Ham doing what they've done. So they basically gazumped us for someone who was probably only going to be a squad player and that, for various reasons, many of us on here didn't want. What's the problem? If it works, it will prove to have been a shrewd move; if not, at least they tried. Imagine us doing the same thing to another club - would we be criticising then?
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
I'm not against what West Ham have done, it's some of the comments that have come out of Neil's mouth.
Basically the deal is purely money orientated - he should just admit it.
Even the arguement of saying he wants to play football doesn't wash. He could have gone to LFC and tried his hardest, might have made a position his own, might not. However, should the worst have happened and he didn't succeed, he'd still have had the option of joining a club of the West Ham, Blackburn ilk.

Tell Carragher it isn't emotive!
It's totally money motivated.
He had two choices to either join LFC on a good contract and have a chance to win trophies. Or join WHU on a very good contract and basically have not much of a chance to win any trophies.
I hope he looks back in admiration once his career is over at his bulging bank balance and the emptiness of his trophy cabinet.

You could equally argue that even if he won things at Liverpool as a squad member it wouldn't mean as much to him personally as doing well at West Ham and having been a major player for them.
Last season West Ham reached the cup final and nearly won it. While I think their high league position last year was a bit of an over achievement, this season relegation fight is also a poor reflection of the quality in their squad. If, and I know it is a big If, they avoid relegation I think they will grow and improve as a team. If we improve as a team in the way we all want to then there is a good chance Neill would have been sidelined. So while I think the money was a big factor I think there are many other reasons why the choice of West Ham might have been better for him personally.
I actually quite wanted him, but I can't believe how bitter people are that he turned us down.

Good points and some reports are saying that he´ll get 70 grand a week which is almost unrefusable for someone of his ability. Saying that, I remember Alves doing an interview about a move to the Premiership for financial reasons and to provide economic security for his family and we still want him don´t we?
* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

That's your way of looking at it. I'm not saying money doesn't have anything to do with it but there are other things.
He knows he wouldn't have played as much at LFC - I think it's perfectly feasible that's a motivation. I know that involves believing something Lucas Neill has said though and since we're the jilted lover...
Also, even if you were right, you really can't blame him a bit for not admitting it. How do you think a West Ham fan would feel if Lucas Neill came out and said, "Of course I could have gone to the club I support and competed for trophies but I decided to come here for the money"? Who do you think he wants to please - Liverpool fans or West Ham fans?
I really think we can move on, he made a private decision that ultimately affects no-one but him and his family. We've got other players. And you're right, he'll have to live with his decision in future. It wouldn't have been my decision in the same circumstances but then (a) I'm not a professional footballer and (b) I'm not him. Is it really worth getting annoyed about that?*
* I'm not saying you are annoyed but other people seem to be.

I’m not that bothered really that he hasn’t joined us, but what gets me is how football in generally is turning out, it’s seems to be about money these days and not success.
If I was a WHU fan earning £250 a week selling jellied eels and cockles down the market for a living I wouldn’t be happy to see a player of his ability earning that amount of money.

I know what you mean.
I was watching Baptista and co celebrating one of his goals last night and all I thought was how unworthy these blokes are for the adulation and money they get. Of course I don't feel the same about LFC players but I do think it.
