    To be fair a manager want sthe captain to be a player he can rely on. He undoubtedly knows Neville the best due to his time at Man Utd. There is also absolutely no question that Neville is first choice in his position. I can see McClaren wanting to only play one of Stevie or Lampard and if one is captian the choice is made for him, irrelevant of form etc.

    I know this may show poor judgement on the Gerrard/Lampard debate and I will always hate Gary Neville but I think it wouldn't be a bad appointment.

      Fair enough. But if that was the case, then the captaincy should go to John Terry. Just my opinion...
