Shelbourne Relegated to Eircom First Division

First Instance Committee Withdraws Premier Licence from Shelbourne FC
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date: Monday, 19 February 2007 Section: eircom League
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The First Instance Licensing Committee of the FAI met this evening to examine licensing issues concerning Shelbourne FC.
Following its meeting on February 4th, the Independent Committee had sought information from Shelbourne and following extensions to that date at the request of the club, the Committee met again this evening to consider the status of their licence.

The Committee decided to withdraw the club’s Premier division licence and to award Shelbourne a first division licence, with conditions.

In line with the Club Licensing process, Shelbourne FC will be advised of the specifics regarding the decision tomorrow and the club has 5 days in which to appeal the decision. No further detail will be made public pending an appeal.

The FAI actually grew a set of balls. Looks like Waterford get promotion

For the non followers of Irish football - Shels were the Eircom premier league champions last season

Ok, a quick inspection of the BBC website reveales that thye've been demoted becasue of financial problems. Seems like thye have huge debts and haven't paid their players for months.

Seems a bit harsh to me to relegate a club because of financial difficulties, I mean that will just make their situation worse. I mean how is what they've been doing different to Chelsea? Both spend money they dont have.

Shels have beenflouting rules for years and taking the association to court to get their own way - Ollie Byrne is a ****** and its his fault that they are in the mess that they are in. You can't run a club without looking after your finances and not paying tax - every other club in the leagues have to comply so why can't Shels. I think they got off lightly by getting relegated.
