Because Coppell did it last year and it created a fantastic squad feeling in which he unlike all the other promoted managers had 22 or so players who all knew their roles in the team and could swap in and out of the team. It's not as if the team he put out disgraced itself, or hadn't earned a draw with United in the first game.

I seem to believe it was 3-2 at the end and two of those goals were keeping errors. In the end my friend who is a United supporter said that they deserved to win. I thus feel it is hardly a disgrace.

Also it has been pointed out before that although Copell is an ex-United player, he was originally a Liverpool supporter and is simply not an over emotional soul, so his support for any team now is not particularly obvious.
