And even then the majority of his shots/goals are deflected.

The problem with Lampard, and I know he's not really fat but it's something that seems to have stuck, is that he only thinks he's had a good game if he's scored.
I was reading some comments from him about the world cup and he was going on about how he knows he had a poor world cup because he didn't score any goals in 6 games.
To me that sums him up perfectly. He really should be concentrating more on getting some tackles in and making some passes - not just the 40-yarders - but getting his hands dirty and doing some midfield work, not just running onto pull-backs and scoring deflected goals.
I've seen pics of him almost angry because Stevie G scored for England and he didn't.
He's selfish and lazy, and a glory-grabbing tw*t. And the only reason he plays for Chelsea is so that he can wear black boots with white socks like all his other chav mates do.
An above average player who was fortunate enough to be playing for Chelsea when the Ruski came along and turned them into a team that could carry him and his glory hunting goal-grabbing ways.

I hate to be alone on this one, but Frank is a very good player. He is quite limited but he is also one of the best short passers in the PL, and carries the ball between Makelele and attack excellently. He has large limitations but to say he doesn't get stuck into takles is a bit like criticising Makelele for not being enough of a threat on goal. Some players perform certain roles, others can do many different things.
I agree with Johnny about the scoring thing but it is one genuine fault in an otherwise excellent role player."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

What's his role with England then? And why is so abysmal for them?Originally posted by dww View PostI hate to be alone on this one, but Frank is a very good player. He is **** there because he is not asked to play the role he does for Chelsea. We have rarely played with a holding midfielder and he is always asked to do a much less well defined job for England than that which he plays for Chelsea. Like many English players at the minute he has very limited tactical nouse and thus is exposed when not given a specific task to complete.Originally posted by Maestro View PostWhat's his role with England then? I do think that Lampard is a limited player. But at what he does he is for me genuinely exceptional."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Bollocks. I could trundle five yards a match and play simple 2 yard passes. I'd take his weekly wage as a yearly salary to do it too. Lampard is in the England and Chelsea team because he sits on the edge of the box and wellies the ball as hard as he can at the goal. Every now and then it goes in off someone's arse. If Chelsea can push the opposition defence deep enough, he scores a few goals and that's the entire point of him. Plus that, he IS the width in Chelsea's midfield.Originally posted by dww View PostHe is **** there because he is not asked to play the role he does for Chelsea. It is odd that so many people within football rate him then isn't it. I'm not debating that he isn't a limited player just that the fact of the matter is that very few players are as good at simple ball retention and moving play up the pitch as he is, particularly in the Premiership environment. You can denegrate the skill of good short passing and ability to recieve the ball in tight areas all you want but the key to much of Chelseas recent success is the way that Makelele breaks up play and knows that Lampard will always be available to take a simple pass and move the ball forward. It is very instructive to watch the pair of them when other teams try to close Chelsea high up the pitch, their understanding and ability to get the ball out of tight situations is brilliant.Originally posted by dirty_sanchez View PostBollocks. The thing that confuses me is why England persist with him. I can see that he plays a role for Chelsea, albeit one that restricts their formation. What I can't see is why England play him when he continues to underperform in a team where other players aren't forced to pander to his way of playing.Such an ugly face, such an ugly mouth.

I suspect basically because the last two managers have been spineless and afraid to stand up to the group of players.Originally posted by dirty_sanchez View PostThe thing that confuses me is why England persist with him.
