I don't understand Skys obsession with him. Surely they can appreciate proper footballing talent (Scholes, Gerrard et al.) rather than fawning over this chubby waster. He does what Chelsea ask of him because he doesn't have to do that much with real talent around him, but is exposed at international level because of his faults and limitations.

There is far far more required these days of a top level midfielder than what Lampard offers, and to be lauded by the psychophantic pundits on Sky doesnt do it for me.
There have been many players in the game who have played at the very top level and you wonder how the fcuk theyve got there, Lampard is that man for me.
When Chelsea are playing well and dictating games then he's involved, mainly supporting the strikers around the box. Whenevr theyre under the cosh however, he simply disappears, its very very rare to see Lampard scrapping for balls in the centre of the park. When Chelsea were beaten 2-1 by Barca at home a coupla years back he was destroyed by Deco in that game and his limitations held up for all to see, yet he is put up there as being comparable with players of that calibre, i find it laughable.

Your point about England playing with a holding midfielder is entirely valid, and the part that Makalele has played in Lampards success should never be underestimated, were it not for Makalele then Lampard would have been exposed as a decidedly average player long ago.

How in gods name he gets a game for England i dont know. IMO, he is the darling of the press because hes always happy to give interviews and a soundbyte, although to be fair theyve even started questioning his right to be selected.
What i hate more than anything is that only in this country it seems that average footballers can be punted around as world class players with god given talent after knocking half a dozen 50 yard hollywood balls.

i think lampard is a decent prem player that does score alot of goals for a midfielder though i do not understand where this hype about him comes from. he is branded as being in the top five midfielders in the world i cant see why! he is not player that will take the game by its scruff start to dictate the pace of the game and turn thr screw on teams when it has to be done. in big games against europes elite he is exposed and is found out!

Just because he looks good doesn't mean I want to eat him. And I see just fine. Ronaldo, the diving, cheating, winker is hot as well, but I hate him. Looks don't mean ****. At least not in football.
