Brit managers managing Brit teams in Europe, can someone remind me how well they have done this year please? I won't hold my breath awaiting a positive reply.

And I'm sure we certainly had high hopes of Brits being both the teams in the final this year, shocking isn't it?

Roeder absolutely savaging his defenders now...

Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder launched into an attack on his defenders after the club's Uefa Cup exit on away goals to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.

The Magpies held a 4-2 first leg lead but saw that overturned all too easily as AZ Alkmaar won 2-0 in the return.

"They are not good goals we conceded," he said. "Too often crosses come into our box, they are not defended properly and bad decisions are made.

"I have to find defenders who are good enough to play in front of Shay Given."

AZ Alkmaar took the lead when a low cross was not cut out by Steven Taylor and was converted by Shota Arveladze.

Their second came when Danny Koevermans lost his marker Titus Bramble and nodded home.

Roeder added: "Shay Given is a is a top drawer keeper but he does not get the protection he should get. He is exposed far too easily.

"Too many defenders make too many mistakes that cost us points.

"They do well, you are happy with them and you think they have learnt. Then 'bang' they go and make the same mistake again and let you down."

Roeder also believes too many of his players failed to turn up as they tamely surrendered to the dominant Dutch opponents.

"We did not have enough players who came out and performed, which was a surprise and unexpected," he said.

AZ Alkmaar coach Louis van Gaal changed his tactics after the first leg and praised the attitude of his side in completing the comeback.

"I have to give my players a compliment for this massive performance," he said.

"It is tough mentally when you are trailing 4-2, we have proved before we can do it."

Van Gaal added: "In the first game, we left Nolberto Solano in a free role and he took advantage of that fact.

"Tonight, we played with Julian Jenner and Maarten Martens in wide positions and therefore Scott Parker and Nicky Butt were swimming."

What does the idiot expect when he is relying on flipping Titus Bramble!

He's almost as bad as Jonathon Fortune at Charlton!

Respect to Sevilla, they seem to be one of the few clubs from the big leagues that really takes this competition seriously.

As for that headed goal from the keeper, dont think I've seen a softer goal from a corner. The guy hardly even had to jump for it. Poor

Who ever scored that first goal for Shaktar is an idiot. One of the most important matches he's probably ever played in, the score at 0-0, and he trys something like that when he could easily of headed it. Was different when Zlatan did it, as it was about the only thing he could have done. This guy could easily have headed it.

Scored by Shakhtar, so your argument doesn't count
Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

jesus bramble was woeful, and the first goal was pathetic no way should that have been allowed to go across the box. do them guys actually realise they are defenders and should try and cut out danger! also duff has gone to f**k a shadow of the player he was!

Duff is not match fit, as for Bramble........ Truly an enigma if ever there was one. He really does have all the qualities to be an international player - Strong, fast, good on the ball - but he is the most stupid defender I have seen in the premier league. He makes disastrous decisions and goes to sleep at times which really costs his team. Cant believe he still gets games for Newcastle!

The partnership of Bramble and Boumsong sums up NUFC Im afraid, always spending big on attacking players such as Emre, Owen, Martins, Luque and Duff, but they never complement them by buying some quality defenders. Roeder has come out and said they need defenders, but I bet they still end up buying a top attacker to excite the fans like Darren Bent or something.

Actually, to be fair Souness did spend £8m on Boumsong!
