    Cup winners offered new Euro plan.

    Uefa may introduce a play-off system between the cup holders in each of Europe's domestic leagues, with a Champions League place as the prize.

    Under proposals being discussed, the winners of each country's main knockout competition would feature.

    Uefa spokesman William Gaillard said: "We want to revitalise the cup competitions in each country which have suffered in recent years.

    "Giving the cup winners one of these spots is something we will discuss."

    Awarding the cup winner one of their country's automatic positions is also being tabled, but is likely to be seen as a step too far.

    At present, cup winners qualify for the Uefa Cup.

    And Gaillard added: "If the cup winner goes to the Champions League, then that third or fourth-placed team in the league goes to the Uefa Cup. There has to be some reality.

    "But to be honest if the same team that finishes first, second or third in the league ends up winning the cup, then the place would go to the next team in the league."

    Just believe and you never know what will happen.

    According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

    In addition to the above is this;

    UEFA is also looking at plans to have a qualifying round where the third- and fourth-place teams in Europe's elite leagues would play each other instead of clubs from smaller nations, increasing the chances for more countries to have representatives into the first round.
    Platini has insisted that Europe's top club competition would have more appeal by allowing the clubs from more nations into the first round.
    England had four representatives this season, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool making it into the quarterfinals

    I'm all in favour of these moves - yes it would affect us if these rules were in place now and if they had been in place for the last few years BUT the proposals (that's all they are at the moment) won't come into effect until 2009 - by then of course Rafa's genius abilities will ensure we'll never have to worry about being outside the top 2 will we?

      Well since one of the Top 4 have won the FA Cup for the last 19 years, it wont be a problem
