    American buys into Arsenal

    Kroenke buys stake in Arsenal

LONDON (AP) - Another American sports team owner has bought into an English soccer club.

Stan Kroenke, the billionaire owner of the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Rapids, bought 9.99 percent of Premier League team Arsenal from British broadcasting company ITV plc.

Kroenke, who is also a co-owner of the St. Louis Rams, follows Malcolm Glazer, Randy Lerner, Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr. as American investors in Premier League teams. Kroenke's British-based vehicle KSE UK INC. bought the shares Thursday, ITV said in a statement.

The move comes just more than a month after Arsenal entered a partnership with Kroenke Sports Enterprises.

The Rockies and Arsenal said after the Feb. 9 agreement that they would exchange business, commercial and marketing information as well as the transfer of coaching knowledge.

Glazer, the owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, took over Manchester United in 2005. This season, Lerner, the owner of the Cleveland Browns, bought Aston Villa, and Hicks and Gillett took over Liverpool. Hicks owns the Texas Rangers and Gillett owns the Montreal Canadiens.

I think it is more Granada (ITV) getting rid of football shares they no longer want an interest in to someone that has Arsenal links, rather than a Yank buying into Arsenal.

It was a convenient deal all round, and keeps the shares off the Stock Exhange.
